I already bought them so it’s happening. The truck is well under geared and will benefit for sure. I’m just saying, that it might not have been as high on my priority list if I’d been running 2.0 before making the decision.

Installed 2.0/93 Beta to my 2016 Tacoma TRD (04B04) Automatic. I have driven the truck for only 5 miles so far, but the improvement over 1.05 is huge in terms of smooth, repeatable, controllable acceleration. Instant improvement, and I no longer have to futz around in order to simply enjoy driving my truck. Thanks so much OVTuning......

I should just buy this thing so I can expierence it. I read about it once a week and now there's a supercharger posted on their website baiting me in lol.

Anyway can anybody explain the gear lock tune to me? My understanding from reading about it is that it basically unlocks the torque converter in lower RPM cruising speeds to prevent a full downshift when power is needed? I'm concerned this would just create a bunch heat in the transmission vs just downshifting and locking the TC? Am I'm understanding this correctly? Any real world expierence as far as towing and transmission temperature problems?

    Thanks!

In the gear lock tune, you simply choose what gear to be in, like a manual transmission.

Same as using Sport Mode, but it will not downshift like it currently does.

I guess we'll have to see, but never liked the idea of gear lock being tied to S-Mode and ECT. Especially for towing. Toyota recommends S-Mode and staying out of over-drive. I like what ECT does, but I'd prefer not to be forced into lock mode.

Agreed I don't like losing ECT and GL doesn't work with cruise.

THIS would be good news indeed. Also hoping that TC slip is not excessive. For towing, that is a problem for heat.

While in gear lock mode, torque converter activity is greatly reduced.
While I’m D mode, the torque converter has been allowed to be a lot more active as compared to previous tunes.

Ah thank you guys that makes allot more sense. When I tow I take it pretty easy on the truck. On the big hills I'll pull in the right lane and just cruise 45 mph or even follow the slow motion semi trucks up. If I'm understanding correctly with gear lock I can just throw it in S mode 3rd @45mph keep the rpm steady and it won't change between 2nd and 3rd gear 50 times on one hill?

Per the manual 5th gear OD is OK for towing and 6th gear is a no go. In my expierence 5th gear and trailer is only sustainable downhill with no headwind.

Loaded 2.0... I only had time to drive around the block, so can't really give any useful feedback other than if drove great!

There is only a time or 2 a year that I look forward to the morning commute, and those times are always after a OVtune update :)

I really didn't notice any change in the sound. I had the radio off as I usually do after tuning just to see if I can hear any noticeable differences. In my short drive the RPM vs shift points felt a little different. I'll have a better feel for it tomorrow after the daily commute.

You will like the 4.88 tune. The BETA version right now is pretty darn fun

Looking forward to it! Is that going to part of the 2.0 release? The gear lock is what sold me for how I use the truck. Honestly I always thought driving around town was fine. Pulling a load uphill is what sucked. Also gonna try the 93 tune asap because why not?

Is it necessary to clear LV values or any other prior to flashing 2.0?
