Just tuned back to 16012 OLE

    19770

I like the ease with which the truck moves and the smoothness with which it accelerates if you stay on the pedal. However, if you are on the pedal and then have to let off(like if you're getting on the freeway and you gun it but then let off to make room for a car) and then you get directly/fully back on it, for me there is the initial no response, as it was just revving to high/seems unsure which gear to be in, followed by an aggressive thud into gear as it recalculates where it now needs to be. Feels pretty intense, maybe like slack in the drive train is locking back in from relaxing during the high rev of letting off the pedal and then getting on it heavy again a moment later.

Even after two tanks of fuel and about 500 miles the tune overall feels more twitchy as opposed to smooth. I can handle the tip in, it's just more twitchy/less smooth overall. This was ultimately my thought on 1.05 Performance as well.

Also, for me, this tune still required more throttle than it seemed it should to maintain speed or cause a downshift when losing a little speed on a mostly flat or slightly graded straightaway.

    16012

Even though I have weight, and would prefer a tune that has the ease of movement of a more performance oriented tune, this version has been the smoothest all around for me thus far. For me, in terms of just smooth drivability, this tune is crushing any other in mileage and under all driving conditions, local, highway, hills, etc. Obviously it does not have the response of the performance tunes, but it's the tune where I don't really think about how my truck is driving because it's not doing anything to make me wonder wtf is going on. For me, not having the driving experience bother me is mostly why I tuned to begin with.

    Future development..

I would love to see a tune that drives as smooth at 16012 but has the ease of moving a heavier rig around. Not sure if that is possible as it seems the faster and easier a heavier truck moves, the more it is likely the driver will need to be aggressively braking or compensating in some way. For me, drivability without thinking wtf is priority number one, that means smoothness outweighs performance, though it would be nice to have both.

It’d be funny as shit if it shipped three weeks late and then didn’t come with instructions to start it.

    I kid, I kid.

My guess is everyone is ok with more power, it’s the lack of predictable and even distribution of that power that can make driving feel more like a chore than a pleasure. At least that’s my experience of the performance tunes thus far, the power comes at the expense of refinement.

Exactly. I don't mind having more power, I just don't want to sacrifice drive-ability and predictability to get it. 100% of my reasons for buying the tune was that, and the power boost was icing on the cake. I'll take whatever Mat can give me for power, but damn the truck drives nice on 2.0.

Right now everything is late and it's actually the suppliers fault. They give us times, we give you times, they delay us, we delay you. Shit situation that will be totally ending after our relocation.

This is why September we will be closing down sales. Move, catch up orders, inventory, all new stream lined process. No 3-5-7-9 day order processing times.

I normally view TW on my phone and therefore don't see user's signature. On my computer tonight and noticed @MOC221_ signature line with the video of Toyota's "Lead Engineer" discussing the "new" 2020. What a tool... #PeterPrinciple no doubt.

Point well-taken. Already submitted to Mat. Should have stated that. Was just reaching out to see if anyone else had noticed more engine braking on this latest tune 19770. It never caught my attention on any of the previous tunes.
Great potential with this tune. Looking forward to 19800 and then eventually an 87 performance tune. I was messing around in 4 low today and the tip-in was way too much and especially when hitting bumps. I was lurching all over the place.

Im Im a fan of the performance tunes. But nothing sucks worse than needing to go and smashing the skinny pedal and not getting enough. I like this Beta. Tip in is more than manageable if you choke up on the skinny pedal.

No tune will ever be perfect until your truck is actually sitting on a dyno. I'm not sure everyone actually realizes that. This is very good for what it is! I'd buy it all day long.

Tacoma Tune Beta 2.0 Feedback - I found myself comparing the current beta with the prior octane learning 2.0 beta.

The GL option currently is good less the tip-in that has settled some, but still is a bit much for smooth take offs. I always preferred the non-GL driving with ECT enabled. I was seeing my best mileage and drivability once that tune offering learning settled in.

Are there plans for another round of octane-learning tunes with ECT enabled again or are you heading a different route for implementation?
If another round is posted I'll be sure to provide shift-to-shift feedback....but it was a joy to drive. It has a nice hold in the gears I preferred.

Will there be a new build for the 4.88 tune? I provided feedback early last week and would love to see a throttle response curve adjusted to be more mellow in the beginning.

+ a longer 3->4 gear hold. Tested multiple loads and what not. Still shifts about 300-500rpm early
