Mat, are the shift points on the 4.88 tune sooner or later than the regular tune?

04B31+-+2.0+EROM+91+-+Shift+Build+19770.p5f is the version I'm using then.

So you're running the 91 octane version of beta build 19770. Mat released 19800 for your ECU as well, which is the latest 2.0 beta release. Pretty much the same as 19770 except for the tip in. You can download it here:

Since re-gearing pushes RPM up for a given speed, then without a gear specific tune, your truck would shift sooner from the perspective of MPH because it sees higher RPM sooner. I believe the gear specific tune pushes shift points further out to get more out of your gearing investment. I could be wrong here, this is just the way I see it.

Didnt see any 19880, only 19800. And I'm not 100% definitively sure on whether my truck is 04B30 or 31. I'm assuming it wont flash if you use the wrong version? Or will it, and just wont work right? I did the checker back when I originally bought 1.05 but I cant remember what it was.

I believe you can't flash the wrong tune for the ECU calibration. Why not just check what Cal ID you're on....takes a few mins tops.

Yea I’m just not sure what all the inputs are the ecu is looking at so I figured I would just ask the guy who made the tune :p

I’m really looking forward to the future when we can modify tables ourselves!

You make a decision on regearing yet?

Tough choices man... re-gear, FI, or both! Lol. I think I’m gonna see how the Rotrex does on stock gearing and then take it from there. Shit I don’t know... this has been on my mind for a long time. Trying really hard no to be impulsive.

Because I'm at work. And the truck is at home.

I think you are right to wait it out and get some real world feedback before such a large investment. I really can't afford either but I have been very happy with stock + OVT. Now a supercharger would be great but they don't sell um for $1500 so I will watch and see but likely never add more.

I’m gonna end up with both. I plan on getting a cummins/duramax in the next few years then the taco will be 100% toy.

I almost want to design a transmission kit with a new 5th gear that has a ratio in between the stock 4th and 5th, uses the current 5th gear as 6th and throws 6th gear in the trash. That would solve so many problems......

What do you guys honestly think is going to happen? It’s no different than someone w/ 4:88’s running the “stock” gear tune

Oops. Typo on my part. Fixed it.

Just make sure you've got a version of the tune for your ECU and you're good to go. Also, pay attention to octane-specific tunes. You don't to be burning 87 on a 91 tune.

Don’t think so, but could be wrong. See my post above. Mat said that the 488 tune changes shift points. I’m thinking it pushes the shift points out. If that’s the case, I think I might like it because that’s what I want. Was your truck tuned when you re-geared? If not, it would be cool to know where your truck shifted in relation to RPM pre tune vs post tune. Or...pre 488 tune vs post 488 tune would probably be more accurate. The dude that bought a Kia was about to try it, but then... he bought a Kia :/ Ultimately, I think I’m gonna wait for 2.0 final and give that a solid run before I do anything else.

Flashed the 4.88 tune and drove it to work this morning, mostly highway, some surface streets. Honestly not much difference, yet, with regard to shift points. Feels like the stock gear tune...

Did you ever get the beta tunes on OVTUNED.com website to upload to your handheld?
I also tried both, and no Bueno (stuck at same #4). I get a file size not correct error

Of course I've emailed Zendesk to get files as per OVTUNED's and your later post.

But was hoping to play with something in the meantime

    Thx

The handhelds need different files than what is currently available
