Indeed. I’m not fully educated on the engineering of the engine and why that sort of thing is needed vs linear throttle, but it is fun from a stoplight. I believe Honda’s V-Tec is a similar concept/intention.

There are videos on how to go about doing this. Also people are willing to help if you're local to them. I'm in the San Antonio area if you need help. I've been tuning my truck for 3+ years now without issue.

Find someone that lives close to you with vFtuner and give em cash. By far the easiest way.

I hope not. After 1100 miles on 2.0, I’m going back to 19800. The current 2.0 just doesn’t do it for me. Even with 5.29s it’s just kinda boring.

I ran 19800 from September 2019. It was super smooth and the power delivery was very linear - almost couldn’t feel the surge.

I'd bet the odds are in your favor. Search the regional section.

Remind me, does the 19800 have gear lock and performance map for ECT?

I still have it. Reg-thx-stock. Starting to piss me off. Just got the 1yr old to fall asleep on the drive home last Sunday, Started up the Santiam Pass and here we go. The truck revs up and takes off like a 2-stroke. Gets up and goes but screams and gets all twitchy. She woke up due to the noise from the engine screaming and probably also the fact that the truck really does accelerate and throw you in the seat. But its Waaaaaaaahhhhh, than beeeeeehhhhhhhh, Waaaaaahhhhhh, Beeeeehhhhhhh. You just can’t keep it in a nice spot when climbing Mountain Passes around 55-65mph. It really sucks when theres Snow and Ice. Also pretty crappy when pulling a trailer. It’s been 3yrs and a little over 30K and it might be time to part ways with the Tacoma. It’s been this way Stock, 1.05.1, 1.05, All 2.0‘s for my ECU.

Was going to last year and spent the money on a boat. Truck drives fine except for Mountain Passes so I start to forget about how it pisses me off until the next time it happens again.

I’m in some fairly flat land and gears made a noticeable difference for the better. 4.88’s.

Pay down the boat a bit then get gears

Huh, I don't know if I've ever experienced what y'all are talking about, been on 1.05 since it came out... are y'all talking about it being weird at 3500 RPM? What's the RPM range of this jolt? I'll have to pay attention when I head back up to the mountains on Friday, or maybe I'll try and replicate it on the freeway today. Honestly I just try and mentally block out this truck's... "quirks" for my own sanity, so maybe this is something I've just tried to ignore in the past.

I never noticed it on any other tune but started to pay attention after someone mentioned it. It’s predictable when at 3500 rpm and accelerating it wakes up and takes off. As long as I know about it, it’s quite manageable. I don’t think of it as an issue just a quirk.

It’s not unique to Toyota or the Tacoma. My weekender does something similar; it really wakes up sharply at about 3500 and from there on if I’m in the pedal.
