Still feels like there is a missing piece. I'm really not trying to be a PITA - just want to try and help.

Without registering your new ECU and with you still having the credits showing in vF Tuner, it seems like you would have an issue getting the tune loaded even with the right .p5f file. If I remember correctly, there are actually/kinda 2 Flash Managers. One with the old deal and one with vF Tuner. The old one uses the .p5f files and you needed the Reg Key that would only run on one computer and I thought only one truck. The new flash manager you access by clicking on the little gear icon in vF Tuner and it uses .vft files. I think you are absolutely legal, I think the process is just confusing enough that you aren't really getting the tune you intend.

Again... I could be missing a small fact that really means that you are doing things right. When you flash, do you open vF Tuner, click on the gear icon, then in the resulting flash manager flash?

I haven't flashed for a few weeks and may be back a version in my vF Tuner, so again - I could be way off here. It just seems like you should see a pretty significant change in the truck after a good flash.

I'm in El Paso, TX. Yes, that's like 9-10 hours south of you but... :notsure:

If you don't feel like driving down, it's not the end of the world lol my buddy will be up in Denver for a few months starting around the 2nd week of September and could get you tuned.

If you get a few buddies together to make it financially worth our driving time, my buddy and I could contemplate a drive up there sooner to get you and some other guys tuned

I appreciate any and all help on this. Hoping someone that has flashed someone else vehicle with their equipment could chime in. I have been following this process:

    • Clicking on the Toyota Flash Manager(1st pic)
    • Then choose "tuning" from the top and "P5Flash Utility" (2nd pic)
    • Screen comes up and I choose "Flash it" and find the file I downloaded from the 2.0 blog (3rd pic)

4th pic is of the VF Tuner (little different looking then yours), but I don't do anything with that.

I switched back to 19770 last night, and reset LV on the first try, but it took 4 tries to reset the AT. I never had this issue before. It finally reset though on the fourth try. For clarity, I loaded the new tune, shut off the ignition, started the truck and let it idle for a while, turned it off, then turned the invention back on and reset the LV and AT.

Were you just getting "unsuccessful" messages when trying to rest AT?

If you're getting unsuccessful messages, it's because you were not in Accessory mode or you were trying too early before the truck had fully turned on into that mode.

As for your other steps, I'm thinking you're not doing anything wrong, especially if you're following the steps that others have posted. Maybe I've missed something from what you've posted, I'll look back through your posts

Thanks, I really appreciate the help y'all are providing. I'm not getting any unsuccessful messages from the system. Everything is acting as if it's going through. However, I'm not utilizing VF Tuner at all (even though it's available), I'm using the Toyota Flash Manager as described here:

I believe the intent of @OVTune was to not let you run through the process they way you are. At one point in time, OVTune didn't want people to be able to flash more than one truck - for obvious reasons. With the advent of the vF Tuner software, that changed. Then as long as you purchased an ECU ID (which you did); you would be able to flash any tune you owned or created on any truck that had the same ECU. In order to do that through vF Tuner though, you also need to own (via Tune Pack or a "friend"), create, or modify a .vft file that was specific to your ECU. You would then use the Flash Manager opened from vF Tuner to put the .vft file on your truck.

Again, I hope I'm not just confusing things more.

Edit: By the way, I don't believe you can convert a .pf5 file to be a .vft file on your own.

You SHOULD get an "unsuccessful" message if you attempt to READ the OVTune that you flashed to your truck.

That's the only unsuccessful message I am getting. Trying to read after the flash.

@OVTune had 2.7L tunes in beta testing for the 2016-17's as of June, idk what progress he's made on that.

Yes, it gave me three unsuccessful messages and finally worked on the fourth try. I even reset the LV a second time thinking maybe the cable had a bad connection or something.

I've been interested in seeing how development goes since I've a friend with the 2.7 and once vFT support for it becomes available, I could get him tuned.

Hoping the 4.0L 2GT sees vFT support as well for similar reasons. OV previously had 2GT tunes so I'm hoping support comes soonish. And I've a personal interest in seeing future 4.0L 5T4R support lol

2016, 2017 AT 2.7L is supported (beta, but available)

4.0 1GR-FE support comes after Tundras, probably around September.

4.0 4Runner is in beta support right now.

    Excellent news, thanks!

I know from our previous emails that the 4Runner ECUs require a hands-on process for you since they can't be read but if you've managed to develop something in beta for the 2020, I'd love to help out and can buy in to get my hands on something for the wife's 4R
