Not at this time. you can select from stock or our adjusted maps, each requires actually flashing the ECU with said map

We have yet to see a tune be released with the level of torque management detail we have been working on.

The complexity is the extreme level of torque management that Toyota implemented into this ECU. the only way to make more power is disregard all the "basics" and focus totally and completely on the torque control tables and calculation tables for "x" result to "y" torque target

I assure you without a shadow of a doubt we can access your Tacomas ECU..
    I've already done the IS200T, RC200T, RC300/RC350 / ISx etc.
I was just looking at the LC500 today, that's next on the list and uses the same torque management.

The next step for us is to get a local Tacoma on the dyno to adjust the torque maps and show the resulting gains. We also have already selected someone on here who will be working with us through the remote tuning process and will explain with the forum the relative process / and how things progress.
The torque control maps are *literally* identical in layer and nature to another platform that we have already done so I have very confident

The ECU does not use the traditional means of tuning that we are all accustom to. where you get an ignition map, fuel target, throttle, and other simple stuff.

Not at all. Rather the ECU uses...This is a little difficult to explain actually but I and some colleagues call it "5D" mapping, where the ECU will continuously alternate through 16 different tables in a "flip book" like fashion based on various sensor feedback and accelerator pedal to calculate a resulting "amount of power to create".

That's just 1...1 part of a spider web of processes.

This true, and increasingly common. Remember, when you press on the gas your not giving the engine gas, you are asking the ecu to let you go faster

The only problem I see with this is that it could void the warranty.

My Audi, I had to go to a dealer and get the APR tube removed prior to dealer maintenance. The dealer was required to scan every time. My service guy even told me to get it removed prior to coming in.

Hopefully this can be done at home!

Then why haven't you created a tune for the 2nd gen Tacomas?

They came around to work on the most recent Toyota ECUs. Not a platform that started in 2005. Look at the list of models they have tunes for. Probably no demand for 2nd gen really.

There is no reason why we cannot, we don't get asked about it very often.

Want to see the inside of the 4.0 tacoma ECU? want to see the stock maps? they are ridiculously small.

What do you mean by clear it?

I believe they mean revert back to stock flash for dealer/warranty purposes.

I'd assume this engine has more potential than the 1GR. Variable timing, direct injection, electronically controlled tranny.

The tool we use mimics OEM TechStream Flashing, while correcting the checksum. Detecting the tune is impossible. Toyota does not even have a detection tool because they aren't even aware people are tuning them. In terms of older ECUs (sub 2016+ new logic) the ECU cannot even be READ by OBD, The dealership can see codes, freeze frame data, and calibration ID, literally nothing else. We have confirmed this with several master level techs AT dealerships. Toyotas way of "preventing tuning" has made it impossible for them to actually investigate tuning.

I was at the dealership today speaking with the folks about remapping the LC500 and getting access inside the ECU and they are not even aware it's possible and actually encouraged us to develop this for the LC500.

the 16+ tacoma ECU can be flashed as many, many times. You can flash your tune, back to stock, back to your tune, back to stock every time you go to the dealer if you wish to do so.

That's what I figured. Toyotas aren't what people "tune". My Audi S5 on the other hand..... hehe

Not that I would reflash this truck as my wife and I think it drives just fine (plus you have S-mode and ECT), and NA tunes yield very little gains on a smaller displacement motor, but it is very encouraging and great to see people tinkering with these ECUs and not giving up. I may want a bit more throttle control (less initial lag) but thats about it.

So at this time you don't know what gains we might see? Basically in testing mode?

This is all true. But keep in mind, toyota wrote this ECU for MPGs, not power.

    The GS350 has 280ft/lbs and 311hp.
Our Tacoma has 265ft/lbs and 275hp

This engine has some power that's all locked by the ECU.

We are ready to get one on a dyno now. Basically an announcement that we have now disassembled enough of the ECU to find what we need to start our Alpha Tunes, and what they will consist of.

Note that our tune kits will allow everyone to easily update from alpha to latest development, for free.

I am quite confident that we will see very solid gains as this exact same torque management is used to create a "flat" torque curve at the expense of a LOT of torque on the low end.

consider the engine makes 268HP and 248 ft lbs. A 3.5L with more accurate and precise camshaft control + higher compression and it makes less power than a 2GR FSE, a weaker engine that will put out over 280HP at the wheels.

I don't know how "torque tables" work, but the GS350 2GR has higher redline, and is tuned for 91/93 (premium) octane from factory. They said not to think of this ECU/tune like a traditional tune so I dont know how they would have gains in that sense, but I'm not a EE.

Edit: he posted above and said nice gains are possible.
