I got rid of that god foresaken slushbox and got the manual

I had 49,xxx on the slushbox when I got rid of it. I didn’t hate it near as much as some do, but I wasn’t a fan of it for highway driving (65+ mph) which is most of what I do. And I wanted the manual originally but I couldn’t wait 6 months to get one so figured the auto would do and I could always trade later if I wanted.

This was all before there was even talk of tuning these trucks. I like the gearing in the manual much better but I’m still curious on occasion how much better the auto is than when I had it.

When my 2015 was in the shop for 3 weeks getting the oil pump replaced I had a 2016 automatic tacoma and it was TERRIBLE.
We took it on a ski trip from NY to VT with it and even though the hills weren't that long/steep it was shifting every 3-4 seconds HARD up these hills; it drove me absolutely nuts. When I drove a 2018 automatic it felt much better right off the bat and after owning it for 6 months I had the tsb done and it got even better. Highway driving is significantly improved both through Toyota and Mats efforts so I'm excited for 1.05! (If it ever comes out)

You're right about the gearing in the automatic 2,000rpms at 80mph just doesn't work.

I quoted TSB 0062-18... hopefully that’s the one I need

FYI: Anyone in the Lakewood/Long Beach area.... I talked to Daniel at Cabe Toyota and he was very reasonable with accommodating me. A lot of that probably had to do with taking the advice of another member on this forum (forgot your name) and specifically mentioning the problem occurs at high altitude.

I just called my dealer as well and he said he was happy to do the TSB 0062-18 no questions asked. Is this truly the one we need? Or just wait?

Yep. 6 gears in the auto could be great if they weren’t so damn tall. I can cruise in 6 in the manual all day long and it just goes. I’m also averaging better fuel economy then my auto did (>2 mpg improvement)

There’s a whole thread on this topic (don’t know how to link it). I mentioned 0062-18 because it’s the one that OP sites in that thread.

    Maybe this link works
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ota-for-stumble-condition-tsb-0062-18.559435/

I’m happy that some of you guys are getting this done without push-back, but you seem to be in the minority. Just to reiterate, I think we’ll have less trouble if we specifically mention high altitude.

I’m surprised there isn’t a message thread with all of us. I thought about starting one then got distracted. I’m in favor of a secret club

Thought I bricked my damn ECU this morning.

Followed all instructions. Then not long after it started flashing, it failed.

    Truck didn’t crank.

Talked with Matt on the forums, used PCM flash to flash back to stock.
