It’s amazing how as time goes on, we find more and more crazy stuff Toyota did. It’s gonna be exciting to see what this truck does once it actually does things logically

No kidding,if Toyota was able to get 278hp out of the screwed up stock tune, well over 300 and significantly improved drive-ability should be easy with Mats magic.

I'm sure at some point we're going to get to the bottom of all the stuttering and such as well.

Speaking of which, has anyone put together a table of performance metrics for each version of the tune vs stock? I thought I read something about +25hp from the 1.04 version of the 91 Octane tune, but I have no idea how accurate that is/was. Does anyone know the real numbers?

On Mat’s truck with oversized wheels and on 1.04 91 Ibelieve it was 22hp and 25 torque

Good to hear. Once the dust settles from the release of 1.05, maybe we can convince Mat to publish one of his beautiful charts with HP and torque gains listed for each version/tune.

I always love Mat's visual aids. I have no idea what the numbers mean, but in my head I'm like "Uh huh, ok, yeah I see what he did there. Way bigger tunable rectangle in the second table. Uh huh, yep. And only one blue cell, instead of a bunch of 'em. Yessir! Git 'er done!" Haha!

I want the damn carrying case so I can store my Taxtrix cable. Lol. I keep getting it confused with the other mini USB cords and they don’t work.

....but what if I zip tied all of my USB cords? o_O
But in all seriousness, I just want the cool OV bag. I keep the cool Dance Dance party OBD plug in connected to the cord so I know which cable is the correct one.

Work for a Japanese company for a while and you will understand... well, probably not understand, but at least accept that this kind of 'activity' is what the Japanese live for. Yes, mostly a complete waste of time and effort, but it's how they operate.

My guess would once again be something to do with emissions and cold start cat performance. No one wants to be the next VW.

It's definitely emissions related but not cold start related.
During cold start up and initial start up the ECU runs -10* of ignition retard to quickly heat the cats.

The ignition tables having so much for idle is because in most cases engines are at idle more than any other rpm, and you can squeeze 0.0001% better efficiency by having overly complex ignition control of idle.

Most other manufacturers have good sized ignition tables for idle...but it is a separate table so they don't have to handicap the rest of the ignition / rpm range in one table.

toyota uses a >Ignition limit MBT table(s)- Base ignition retard table (all reduce from) base high octane 1 I- base high octane 2 - base low octane 1/2-> Throttle angle change retard compensation > valve angle retard - Temperature compensation > Knock correction retard style of logic.

Mazda uses (for example) > MBT Limit table > Ignition depending on Valve timing activation limit on knock, Valve Timing activation limit on MBT, Ignition retard during low load, Transient retard, Knock retard compensation > temperature compensation "if less than" Knock limit > other compensations. (skyactiv)

MZR uses a simpler but very effective strategy > MBT limit tables > Ignition Low Knock Closed loop > high knock closed loop (effectively Low octane base or high octane base) > open loop of the same > Raw knock retard compensation > temperature modifier. and some other stuff.

Subaru.... god subaru uses physics. calculating gravity (lol not really. But subarus ignition is quite complex)

Our ignition fix, which will be explained in detail in our blog, should achieve better MPG than this truck has ever seen before. because we are getting full utilization of advance and increasing cruise advance closer to 40+* where it should be (depending on rpm), unlike stock tables where majority of driving you're lucky to see 30*..

We've tested this with atkinson engine (skyactiv) on Mazda, and on the 2.5L Skyactiv-G engine we achieved 46MPG, and 50+ on the 2.0L.
The only problem is that pre-ignition/ super knock becomes more of an issue with low octane.

I am determined to make 1.05 the "solution" for these trucks. This engine should absolutely be able to get closer to 30mpg.
Even the 2URGSE can do more than 30MPG and it's 5.0L V8, similar design (atkinson, D4-S, high compression)

    The 2GR-FKS Camry does 30+.

Realistically I understand with weight and size of the truck we won't see as good but I hope to see more trucks reaching 25+ consistently.

So my ROI calculations when I paid for the tune (when we were on 1.03) are essentially shot now.

    Gee, thanks!
