I’m pretty tempted on buying this for my truck. Does it truly feel worth the money? I’m on a tight budget but I’m very unhappy with the performance/drivablity of my Tacoma. Especially coming from a 2nd gen.

What’s your favorite/best improvement about the tune?

Throttle response, shift point improvements, and cruise control (non-adaptive) actually works like it should. The other big plus for me, and I don't think this can be overstated, is that Mat continues to improve his tunes all the time, and so far new releases have been completely free for existing customers. It's really a huge value for the money.

The OVtune "Base" tunes are a drastic improvement over stock in terms of shifting and throttle behavior.

The "Performance" and "Gear Lock + Performance" versions are simply next-level. You will honestly feel as though you're driving a completely different truck. The throttle response and power delivery are amazing.

I'm not exaggerating. It really is that different.

    Where to begin?
    1. Predictable throttle response - no more dead pedal feel.
    2. Snappy throttle response - even with the base tune, the truck goes when you tell it to instead of unpredictably hesitating. With the performance tune, it'll give you whiplash it's so willing to take off.
    3. Automatic transmission shifts the way it should have from the factory - No more shifting the 'wrong' way and losing all power when coming out of a turn. No more dance between 6th and 4th or 3rd on hills where you lose speed in 6th followed by an overly aggressive downshift and screaming ahead.
    4. Cruise control is functional, using 5th and 6th 90% of the time instead of downshifting to 4th or even 3rd every time you hit an overpass or headwind. (This only applies to non-adaptive cruise, but my truck didn't come with adaptive cruise.)
    5. On the highway, the truck can actually make power in 5th and 6th instead of having to downshift. For me this translates to much better mileage.
    6. With the high octane versions of the tune, you get all of the above plus noticeably smoother acceleration, a quieter running engine, and even less downshifting due to the truck having more torque lower in its power band.
You say you hate the way your truck drives right now? Mat's work will make you change your tune (pun intended).

My favourite/best part is the gear lock option which I’m using mostly for towing. It appears that I’ll be able to do a lot of the flatland towing in 5th.

Over all, the tune appears to get better after a few hundred miles of “settling”. Just had the truck in for the 5000 mile service and no one complained about a touchy gas pedal so I think it’s “settled”.

I’m happy with it for sure. Glad I made the investment.

@OVTune - hey there! Any word on the 04B30 issue? I didn't pile on with a new ticket since you are already well aware of the problem, so I'm not sure if you've already sent out any fixes or updates.

As always, thank you for all you do!

And your truck will feel like a feather versus feeling like you’re driving Jabba the Hutt.

Good idea. Too many people just jump into things. I poured over everything until I completely understood the process (which is simple) and the pros/cons. Only then did I happily throw my money at Mat.

Don't know if Mat still has speedo calibration on his plate, but the Hypertech works A-OK with the tune. One has nothing to do with the other.
