If you are running stock tires and near sea level, the tune will make a huge difference and will hold the upper gears much better. At 6000 ft and lots of hills in Colorado and add in 33 inch 59 lb tires and truck will still need to downshift on the highway but there is no way around the super tall 5th and 6th gears that are made even taller with 33inch tires. Regardless, it is way better than it was before. This is 1.05 91 base tune.

Thanks everyone, and my apologies for not seeing the techstream instructions. I'm no forum slouch.

I called my service advisor back. Told him straight up that I checked via my PC and they didn't perform an upgrade. In fact, the date (if it's the real install date) was like June of 2017 or something.

Turns out the tech didn't even try to perform the update at all even though he denoted it in the work notes and the ticket closed.

So, the service advisor told me to bring it right back and apologized. He was super nice. Said he's a taco owner (says he's had 5) and understands. They updated the ECU replaced the recalled A/C blower motor, and sent me on my way. I flashed it as soon as I got home to 87 Performance.

HOLY TIP-IN BATMAN! I heard you guys talking about it but holy hell it's a serious vroom. Anyways, power is good. I did a WOT pull up to 65 or so. I noticed the rev limiter being raised and a whole lot more power.

Anyways, this is one pant load of a thread. I am glad I was able to glean information from it and get my OVTune right.

Fwiw on my 17 dcsb or, stock always 91 (the highest oct. around here) and always drove w/ ect on. W/ the ovt 91 base tune, imho does little or nothing to low rpm power, feels the same, I still drive w/ the ect button on at all times.

I've got the brand new, unadvertised OVTune "SoonTune!" Its horrible. Weird shifting all the time, the cruise doesn't work, and my power sucks. MPG is right at 15.

Oh, "SOON TUNE" means I'll get it soon. I have nothing yet.

Ive been on 93 base for about 1500 miles. Im considering switching to the 87 base to save on fuel. Has anyone noted a mpg difference between the 93 and 87 tunes?

I’m OK with that. There are too many benefits to the tune for that small issue to impact my enjoyment of it.

I’m getting great MPGs on the 87 base tune for being lifted with armor and what not. 20 mpg freeway, 17 mpg commuting

Interesting. I just switched to 87 base from performance to see how much better mpgs I could get. I was getting high 17’s with the 87 performance after a few tanks. Now I’m getting sub 15 mpgs on the base tune. I’m only about a quarter of a tank in so I’m not judging it yet. I’ll wait until it settles. I was hoping to get into the low 20’s like some have on here. We’ll see! I have tech stream but didn’t clear any learned values or anything. If after a couple tanks I still get worse MPGs than performance tune, I’ll try clearing values.

I went to the 87 Base tune after running 91 Performance for a few weeks. No detectable difference in mileage for me. I'm consistently getting 18-19 mpg on both with mixed city/highway driving.

I've run the 93 and 87 base tunes. 93 does give a couple MPG improvement, but not enough to offset the cost of premium. I switched back to 87 because I didn't like paying so much for gas, but I think I'm just gong to bite the bullet and return to the higher octane tune. Not so much for the moderate gain in power, but because the engine just subjectively feels and sounds like it's running way better/smoother on the high octane tune.

Definitely need to let it settle, and need to not expect that tip-in. I was getting noticeably worse mileage on the 87 perf tune. The 87 base tune just seems to have a better power band as well. Once it settles and you do some freeway driving without traffic you should be able to some better mpgs. If you clear values you will need to wait for the full tank of gas worth of settling all over.
What size tires do you have? Any weight?

We've seen some people have to run flash manager as "right click > run as administrator" when this happens.

That’s good. Yeah I’m expecting it to settle out. Just not sure if it’ll settle and give me 4-5 more mpgs than I’m getting. That just seems like a lot. My trek home from work today was riddled with wrecks and terrible traffic. I’ll have to do some late evening highway driving tonight to get some miles in. I have 275/70/17 ATs. I have a roof rack, sliders and shell. No bumpers.
