My transmission feels fine so far. Hope these issues don't appear latter. Fingers crossed, knock on wood.

Let us know if you get a response. I wrote a snail mail letter to Mr. Lentz in April 2016, when I was having issues with my 2016 TRD OR DCSB that weren't being resolved. In response I received nearly immediate attention from a Toyota Motor Sales USA, Executive Analyst.

Suffice to say I no longer own the truck I had written to Mr. Lentz about. Don't despair though. Sending a letter to the President, Toyota Motor Sales USA will go a long way on your behalf if your issues aren't resolved and the matter goes before a third party.

My guess is Mr. Lentz won't personally respond, but you will probably receive a response from one of his underlings like I did.

I plan to have it manually "check" again.

i agree. i want mine checked again too i might just see how much its cost.. servco said they checked it at my TSB but i dont 100% feel they checked it manually. i told them i wanted it done manually. but they were addressing other problems in the truck.. trans-tsb, LCA-tsb and the hood vibration seperation issue. my list was long..... my truck is great now after the work... but i still unsure fully on atm level.... next time i gonna just go down and talk face to face with a good service advisor and stick with only one guy.. the service advisor i was supposed to meet up with was out on break so someone else checked me in which made bad comunications...... in the mix my Main concerns of the ATM fluid may have been distracted or not passed along properly .. so when i checked out the service adviser didn't really seem confident in my veiw that it was checked manually... so i told him he had to double check it and its very important..he later came back and was like yea we checked it it was fine... he was like if the ATM fluid was low it would be clunking.

in some ways i think servco wouldnt say if it was low on a brand new truck they just sold... they are too big and smarter then that.. servco runs the toyota pacific... they are they own corporate .. they would just check them and top them off if needed... and be like....'' yea atm is fine'' ! my truck drove like shit when i brought it in with trans issues....when i drove out it was like a new truck... maybe the tsb was such a big deal for my truck IDK.... maybe mine was low too and they topped it off ... who knows . mine does drive well now.

I bought mine Last November, had fluid filled correctly at less than 500 miles, which helped a lot and was pretty satisfied after, but still not 110%. I was waiting a while to get the TSB to see what others we're reporting first before I received it since there is no going back once flashed, and didn't want it to be possibly worse. Just had it done recently, and can say I noticed a significant difference within the first 5 miles after leaving the dealer. Anyone still on fence like I was about it, I can say "I APPROVE"!

Not true, I have a 2017 TRD Sport dcsb. Just got back from a 350 mile trip, running cruise control. I had to take it off cause the gears were hunting so bad from 6th to 4th going uphill. When cresting hill taco would stay in 4th gear for a long time. I also have the "lurch" problem when cold and the shift from park to rev.
I have 650 miles on it now. Had a SR5 '16 but it got totalled by a DD. I hadn't experience any problems with it up to 3076 miles on it.
I talked to my dealer and they knew of the tsb and low trans fluid. Said bring it in and they would do the tsb and manually check fluid for me. I can bring it in now or can wait for the 5000 service. Told them I would wait for 5000 service for now.

Your story is the same as mine. I went in a explained the long list of items that was wrong with my trans. I was told the guy that worked on my truck had gone for the day. They TSB'ed it, LCA, and said they check the ATM. Then the guy said sure they checked ATM manually half hemming and hawing.

I was picking up my kid a couple weeks ago and on the way down from Tantalus at the lower residential part, I lightly pressed the accelerator and the truck surged and with the turn I had to jump on the brake. If some person had been walking / bicycle on the side of the road while I was on that turn I might have run em over.

Like you I think the TSB made a difference but I think the clunk and surge must be low trans. And I have a rumble strip feeling at 20 mph decelerating.

I like the letter. Very well written. Would you mind my using it as a guide if the clunking and surge aren't addressed. I would substitute that my interaction was with the dealer and not call center though.

i still get that surging sometimes too.. hemming and hawing is a good way to explain how they told me that as well... and to top it off he was like if it was low on atm it would be clunking... he was a young kid maybe 20 something. i was thinking i smell bullshit. but i hammered him on it.... if i find out the truck is low on atm fluid im gonna be flying shit at them ... im thinking i may pay for the work and be right there when its checked.... now i realized i know one of the service advisers im going straight to him next time

Mapunapuna? If you find a good service advisor there let me know. I want to avoid the "20 something", I think we got the same guy.

Whats up guys first time posting. I recently purchased a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport. I have been having issues with the trans surging in reverse shortly after I bought it. It has been to the dealer twice already but they have not been able to fix it. First time they did the TSB but it still continued to happen. Took it back a week later and they claimed the trans fluid was .5 low but the problem still persists. I called the dealer today and they stated they will call me on Monday to set up an appt with the field rep and open a case number. I must have crappy luck I traded in a 2013 Camry that also had to have the torque converter replaced.

I experienced the same type of person when I opened my case number. My Case Manager (Casey) was condescending and told me there's nothing wrong with my 2016 and that's the way they are. I told him after owning 8 previous Tacoma's, that it's not acceptable. I no longer own this vehicle and Toyota has lost a loyal multi-vehicle buyer as we've purchased just as many Camry's also.

Just had the TSB done on my truck today, I could tell a difference on the way home. My dealership is a little over a hour away from my house with a little city driving but mostly all highway. The pause shifting between reverse and drive is gone and the erratic shifting/searching for the right gear while in cruise is also gone. Truck drove great and I got a little extra surprise. I have made the trip to this close by Town now 5 times and have always got right at 22.5 mpg, today I got the best milage yet coming home, 24.4.
