I had the TSB update installed last week and am very happy with the results. My biggest issue was the lurching into R or D from P and then the delay in action after just going into D and hitting the gas pedal. This has completely stopped. The transmission feels a lot smother during commutes in general and may have a little more get up and go to it. Couldn't be happier. I had to really insist it be done when I took it in for the 5K mi service. They lady originally said that they would only do it if they could replicate the issue which made me pretty mad, and I expressed that's not completely fair since it doesn't happen all the time, but it sure does happen. She told me she expressed my strong concerns to the techs and they went ahead and did it even though they were not able to replicate the issue. Just as a side note i had them also check the zerk fittings since some people on here pointed out they were not completely filled from the factory, mine checked out all good.

I had the TSB done about a month ago after experiencing the R-D lurch. It took care of that but not the 3-4 gear delay after sitting over night. It also has the shudder in the 15 mph range that the TSB didn't address. I took it in for the 5k and told them about the continued problems. The service manager didn't want to address it without having it at least overnight so that they can have corporate on the phone and possibly have a corporate tech available to diagnose it. I'll have to make arrangements when I can leave it. Really bummed about this transmission and am all ears if anyone else has some luck getting these issues resolved.

    FL Tacoma,

Let them check it out and make them give a demo to drive. I still have those symptoms with 12000 k and i think it was around 9000 k when i got the firmware update (TSB)

Curious on the outcome because they are using Corp Support on this and all the other issues i have had. I actualy thought i had crap gas again on the 15 mph sputter.

had mine done 2 weeks ago with the 5000 mile service checkup. helped somewhat. still not totally corrected the up/down shift issue but I've only put 150 miles or so on it so far so it could possibly be still learning and adapting to my driving style.. seems better. seems to be a sportier program(at least in my truck) they checked the fluid and said it was ok.
they were very aware of the tranny issues, as soon as I mentioned a shifting problem service writer said there was an update.

Dfelz ; glad you are currently pleased with TSB , caution ,1,000 to 1,500 miles before you become elated with procedure, for a large number of Our Tacomas sadly revert back to the unacceptable, shifting insanity.

Fl-Tacoma , Rednecktex and a multitude of 2016 Tacoma owners.
    Toyota........shudder........operating as designed! Unbelievable!
Toyota ........transmission shifting ............ as designed! Unbelievable!
    T-SB-0077-16.................is a software update......Shift feeling enhancements.
Toyota maintains 0077-16 is software reflash.
Perhaps an additional T-SB may be in the works in relation to hardware, could be?
Toyota field service technician will not , I repeat, will not drive my Tacoma in order to confirm my concerns or once and for all deem vehicle performing as designed. Just as a side bar; ran 2016 Tacoma thru Large auto auction in the Birmingham Alabama area, one bidder who has knowledge of transmission issues( word is on the street)offered 34K........not ready for that bath.........!

All this being said; we the owners of 2016 Tacomas deserve a permanent fix, at least get performance as good as the last generation. Would like to know avenue to get in front of Toyota field service technician, I have been denied three times, Help! Please help!

I think the only way to get real satisfaction is to do a mass drop off of all 2016/2017 Tacomas with transmission issues. Maybe a national "fix this crap" day. Imagine the dealers eyes with a line of 10 or more Tacomas lined up for transmission service at every dealer across the nation. Set a date. Notify the press. Get in line. I can see the news eating this up. You want a wake up call. How many people would NOT buy a Tacoma on that day. Hit them where it hurts. In the wallet.

With regard to this, and I'm sorry if this has been beaten to death, but I have the delayed P-D engagement but the dealer indicated he could not reproduce. I pointed out the TSB and he said it does not apply because mines a 2017, even though the VIN is indicated. Any advice for me here?

mrproduxn; excellent suggestion, surely we could finally be heard collectively on a very broad stage. Frustrated Tacoma owners unite, surely Toyota will listen( let's hit them most effectively- financially )
Ready to band together with fellow Tacoma owners.

As there are so many of us, experiencing ongoing transmission issues, I believe it is a press-worthy story. We were all, or nearly all, former proud 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma owners that welcomed the new model with open arms and open check books. I personally don't want to be neglected in the stock market success of Toyota while such a large number of us are unhappy with the hush hush under the rug problems that we are forced to deal with every day. One would think, in order to protect the brand, that Corporate would reach out to us and help resolve this. At least send out a letter to those with case numbers to assure us that they acknowledge the problems and are rigorously engineering a resolution. I am a patient person and have faith that they will eventually fix this. But my patience has limits. I love my truck. I don't want anything else. And I can afford any truck on the market. These trucks have been on the market for a solid year now. How long does it take, and how many open cases does it take, before they show us the same respect they showed when their frames rusted out. My 2000 Prerunner now has 182,000 trouble free miles on it and it does have a new frame from the recall. I bought the 2016 with the expectations of getting 200,000 or 300,000 miles out of it. It has already seen more dealer time than my last 15 vehicles combined.

Mikey4x4 and all of you guys,

Thanks for the input i get more every-time i surf this forum,

I have had too many problems so i would advise use your taco like you stole it or just drive the shit out of it. NOTE: i drove mind like a old man and i have had rear diff seal, then rear diff replacement and finally the transfer case cratered.

I want to say i may have a older production taco than others not sure i got fresh off the truck 12-15-15.

I hope i am misreading the above posts when i see 2017 still has this shit in the log for a PROBLEM i admit i jumped on the 2016 for many reasons.

And the used ones are expensive but with the amount of issues on my truck who would buy it and i doubt i can get shit on a trade but i will keep working with Toyota and the dealership for a final fix.

Good luck on getting anyone to allow you talk directly to support engineers that fixing all these bugs in this truck we found and are trying to fix them.

I now have the best warranty i can get per Toyota so i am not going to drive like a old man all the time..

    So....anyone have this issue.

On the freeway mine will get stuck on 4th (anywhere between 60-75) and I can give neutral throttle it won't shift. Let off throttle, it won't shift. Slightly accelerate then back off, no shift. Only if I completely let off for 5-10 seconds will it eventually shift into 5th or 6th. This happens every day on the way to work on a flat freeway. Maybe that's normal for a Tacoma, but not other autos I've driven. I tried so many times to get it shift but nothing works. Except for completely letting off coasting for a while.

I've had the TSB done and they "checked" the fluid - I still want to manually check it because I'm pretty sure the dealer didn't.

Just wondering what your trucks temperature is when this no 5th -no 6th occurs ?
You wont get overdrive until the truck is at operating temperature
If you merge onto the highway when the truck is still cold , it will take a while before the computer in your truck allows upshifts to 5th .
If this is happening when your truck is completely warmed up , you need to get it into the dealer for a diagnostic

Nope. It's warm. It usually takes me 10 minutes to get to the freeway. So it's probably warm by then. I'll check tomorrow what the temp gauge shows then.
