What is required beyond disconnecting the battery. So many reports of temporary improvements
Are encouraging and leads me to attempt . Please share steps to the process, is audio system or any other system required to reset, thanks in advance, Mikey4X4. Thank you for serving our great country!
    GOD bless America !

Drive the truck to operating temps.....then come home and disconnect the battery for 20min or so. Hook back up and go back out and drive a little more aggressive. keep in mind the first 100miles or so transmission will be learning so expect funny operation untill it "learns" your driving style.

Ps. Do this every frekend 1200 miles or so for best results..

Had my TSB done on Tuesday and i've put about 150 miles on it since and I'm loving finally having a normal driving truck. I could instantly feel the difference. Now hopefully it stays that way and doesn't go back to shit like many people on here have experienced.

I'm going in tomorrow for 8k (5000 miles) service. Going to get my oil changed while I'm there and ask for this TSB to be performed. Also asking for a manual ATF check.
What else does this service include and what else should I ask to have checked?

Does anyone know if the TSB # is the same in Canada ?

Not sure about the Canadian TSB but they are required, according to your owners manual and the ToyotaCare program, to check and top off ALL FLUIDS. Be adamant that they do. My father had to raise holy heck for them to top off his oil in his new Camry which was 1/2 quart low. The dealer said it was an acceptable consumption in a new vehicle and was within the dipstick marks. There is no acceptable oil consumption in any vehicle. This applies to all fluids for the engine, transmission, radiator, brakes, differential, transfer case, power steering, windshield wiper, etc, etc.. They are the ones that created the program so make them adhere to it. If you are smart you will perform a quick fluid check before you take it in and, if anything is low, check again before you drive off the lot. That is how my father knew they did not top off the oil. Dealers are dealers and they don't want to spend 1 penny (U.S.) on your vehicle without getting paid. It is a shame that Toyota is no better than any other make when it comes to customer care. It's all about profit. Some people get lucky and have a good honest reputable dealer. Those are in the minority. Also may want to put a paint mark on the transmission fill plug so you can see that it was actually removed in the process. Many owners that did this said the plug was never removed. I painted mine and it had wrench marks on it after the check.

The reset won't be the answer to making it good, only tolerable.

The ECT on all the time is also something that isn't a long term fix.

I'm really reaching for something that makes this truck perform like it should.

Amazon parts are still not here and the fact that we're cutting wires to make it normal is pretty pathetic. Parts may not be here for this weekend's mod. Even after all of this I am still 100% certain at 36k this truck will be sold.

Honestly I'm doing this to buy time until Ford or Jeep take advantage of the mistake Toyota made with this powertrain.

I wish I could be more positive, but I can't.

I'll post the mod when done, but if you're a Toyota fan of the trucks of old you will still be left wanting more.

    Sorry bro.

Paint on fill plug is a good idea. I sometimes mark the inside of a tire with chalk to make sure they actually rotate tires. Too bad we can't trust them.

Yep - I called in a case yesterday on my 2017. Support said there was no TSB listed for 2017. Case was created. Obviously it's the same issue along with the vibration and Carm wind noise.

Your statement that you are waiting on Ford or Jeep to capitalize on Toyota's fubar handling of the Gen 3 Taco problems is exactly my plan also. The only difference is I got rid of my POS-2016 TRD 4x4 OR when it only had 8,000 miles on the odometer (I feel sorry for whoever purchased it). Amazing how many problems a brand new truck exhibited with so few miles. Be that as it may, I am currently driving a new Jeep Cherokee (temporarily) until Ford starts selling its future Ranger and Jeep's future small pickup comes out. I will compare those two and I will own one of those two in the near future.

I wouldn't have replied, but I felt a reply to your post was needed to let you know that others (at least me) have done precisely what you are considering; i.e., selling your Tacoma and looking for something else (another truck I presume).

had my ECM flash done at 4600 miles and by 5000 miles its back to hunting like crazy for gears. I also have a slight grinding, cyclical noise coming from the front or rear diff. (I have a level kit w/ diff drop, but that doesnt seem to matter considering theres quite a few diffs failing out there).

This fucking sucks. I want to get rid of this thing ASAP now. 2017 Raptor anyone?

Had 8000 km service done today. Complete waste of time. They did agree my truck was searching for gears but couldn't perform TSB because " system was down".

I agree with both of your posts. I am in a little different situation. I am keeping mine until the new Ranger and, hopefully, a new generation Frontier show up. Just keep in mind, in as much as Fords have always treated me great, and Nissan makes a great truck, that any new model will have some expected new gen issues. That is what I expected on this Tacoma. I just did not expect to be 10 months into ownership and still have a damn transmission issue. On a freakin Toyota of all things. I am going to retire between 09/2017 and 12/2018. My Toyota will be paid off when it is 2.5 or as much as 3 years old if I run the length of my loan. I am extremely hopeful that the transmission will have a complete and final fix by then. I did have 5 other issues that were fixed, after several home-made videos, and aggressively pushing Corporate. To date I am very happy with everything except the transmission. Depending on the Ford, and possibly Nissan, pricing I will test drive them and make that decision. The whole reason and timing of my 2016 purchase was to have a nice low mileage, dependable for 250,000 miles, truck paid for at retirement so I could drive worry free for a few years. I think one of my biggest let downs is that Toyota has not offered, or responded to my request, of extending my powertrain warranty because of this issue. It makes me think that Toyota moved production to the states so they could treat us like the other home-made carmakers. That is not what I expected from Toyota the world wide giant carmaker. I have already decided that, if I plan to trade or sell it, I will either get a new re-flash or, disconnect the battery, to reset the transmission to mask the issue for potential buyers. It hurts me to admit that but I am not going to lose my shirt over this deal. All I can say is Mr Toyota please fix this crap so my transmission is not pre-occupying my mind every time I drive to work or the grocery store or, God help me, on vacation out of state.

Might be a little early to award the complaint champion to model years 2009 and 2007
, at the current pace it appears 2016 will easily surpass all years to date as number one.

2016 Tacoma one model year.............122 complaints
    2009 Tacoma 8 model year.............587 complaints
    2007 Tacoma 10 model year.............541 complaints

Given current numbers the trend places 2016 as the all time champion.

Sorry SLO TRD, we the 2016 Tacoma owners will wear the crown!

I've owned 9 Tacoma's in the past and just got rid of my 2016 Tacoma because of tranny issues and now driving a new Ford F150. I'll never go back to Toyota after the BS they put me through. I love the smooth shifting of the F150 and I'm not looking back at the piece of crap 2016 Tacoma I had. I made a smart decision to walk away from my Tacoma and the loser is Toyota--you lost an extremely loyal customer for all the BS you put me through!!! Shame on Toyota for putting out a product like this and not standing behind it!

How do you think I feel. I had a great nearly paid for 2014 F150 with 9000 miles and a completely paid for 2008 excellent Tacoma with 60000 miles that I SOLD to buy my 2016 Tacoma. What do you think I see every time I post about my ill 2016 Tacoma transmission. Rhymes with Bumbgrass. In my defense I just did not need the full sized F150 as much as I needed a smaller truck. Only wish the new Ranger was available then for comparison. I have been loyal to Ford for 40 years and had also become loyal to Toyota over the past 8 years. Prior to my 2016 I felt Ford and Toyota were equally quality built.
