Awesome! I just went on my 1st long drive, 250 miles, yesterday and got super annoyed with the failure to upshift. Also every time I tried to switch to S mode it would automatically downshift to 4th, even on flat sections and downward grades. I only have 450 miles so far.

Was this an actual tsb for the v6 AT? I thought it was for 4cyl configurations. I had this issue and dont think this new programming fixes it. We will see tomorrow driving it.

Will be interesting to see how this changes the shifting behavior. I wouldn't get your hopes up thinking it will be a night and day difference. It's still a small motor that gets it power up high moving a heavy truck. Adding another OD gear also means more shifts. That being said, hopefully the issues that the TSB addresses will be remedied.

If there is a TSB for the V6 6speed then my best guess is that there is a separate TSB for the I4 6speed. They must have separated them so the software part numbers won't get confused.

isn't it supposed to downshift to 4th when you put it in "S"?

Guess it's time to make a trip back to the dealer - I was just there Saturday. It would be nice to be able to use cruise again. If this update works, it'd cross the last complaint I have off the list

I just figured it should just flip over to your current gear and up or down shift as desired. That's how previous tiptronic systems I've used have operated. :notsure:

So they will or won't check ATF levels in conjunction to this reflash?

Well that answers that, thanks! I haven't had a chance to check out the manual yet.

No problem. I have it on my iBooks for situations just like this.

This is how the TSB should be implemented:

Setup: Location is a desert playa surrounded by jagged mountains. In the center, a circle has been created using construction markers. Not those wimpy-ass cones and sticks, but "Shit's get'n done" rodeo barrel size markers. On the west end of the circle, large temporary awnings are positioned just outside an opening in the ring. A line of 3rd gen Tacomas 4 miles long and ten trucks wide stretches from the awnings into the distance. A bank of five trailer mounted commercial generators provide power. On the east side, a similar opening leads between six circus size tents and off to a large parking area filled with V6 Tacomas. Different music pulses from each of the tents and the shadows cast by party lighting flicker and twist from inside. Parked nearby are a dozen charter busses with windows bearing the crudely drawn Greek letters of several national sororities and a few fraternities. The rumble of eight semi-truck mounted generators is drowned out by the music and voices. Restrooms have been provided.

Process: Flaggers control trucks into ten update stations. Wearing a respirator against the blowing dust, a tech provides the TSB update, a Toyota t-shirt, and a beer cozy. An additional self-terminating routine is included that modifies the engine management to proved actual torque at low RPM and allows 4x4 off-road trucks to operate in with a locked diff in 2wd for 5 minutes. A large green light signals that the update is done and each truck launches out onto the marked area of the playa in cloud of fine powder. A broad range of automotive hooliganism is encouraged. Five minutes of mayhem complete, drivers work their way past the tents and park. High-fives all around as everyone makes their way to the parties.

In addition to the expected music, food, and libations, the Toyota funded parties include "pin the seat belt bracket on Mike Sweers" and "Seat height adjustment Twister".

Groggily stirring from the provided cots the next morning, we make our way to our homes throughout North America over the following days. We glory in the joy of a well behaved transmission. A few brave souls use cruise control and are amazed that the transmission does upshift. We carry the joyful glow home to our families, communities, and workplaces. We log onto TacomaWorld.com and laugh at how worked up people got about that "transmission thing".

That night we start a new thread and complain about our trucks.
