Are these transmissions that are low on fluid coming off the assembly line filled at that point? Does a machine fill them and no one checks the level expecting a machine to be exact? I'm just wondering how something this important can be over looked.

I've read allot of the atf post but never saw where or when they're filled. Sorry if it offends you swimmer. But I'm still curious when this is done.

according to posts here it is the trucks with tow package because they have a tranny cooler which will require more fluid. easy to muck that up in the factory. would assume they pump a set amount of fluid into it during assembly and could screw it up. doubt if they fill it then check it. just me guessing...

That makes sense with the added oil cooler.

So after digging through the forums it's apparent that quite a few 2016s (with tow package) are coming low on trans fluid from the factory. People have reported that when the engine is cold and you shift from reverse to drive the transmission will "hang up" for a few seconds before engaging. I have noticed this on my vehicle.

I called the dealer and asked if they would top the fluid off. They replied that they need to formally diagnose a problem in order to do this and have it covered under warranty. Well, the dealer is approximately 100 miles away so if they can't diagnose the problem it's going to be a wasted trip and I don't know if I want to make it.

According to the service manager I talked to this is the first time they've heard about the issue and I don't think he was believing me. So my question would be: do you think it's worth it for me to make the trip to top off the fluid?

Also, I have heard that Toyota already has a transmission update available....is this true? If so, how do I go about getting that installed asap?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Getting it done asap and avoid dealer bs... pay for it. That's a long way to go and if they haven't heard
of it and find no real issue, you're right, wasted trip. And yes, most will not believe it if they haven't seen
or heard about it yet. It's a time consuming task from what I've read and anything like that they'll likely
bitch about and try to avoid doing. Any idea what the cost is?

That's not too horrible, if I was worried and it was that far, I'd make an appt.
and have it done, it would be well worth the piece of mind if you're concerned
    about your brand new truck.

So you started another duplicate thread, and you wonder why the main page "is consumed with the same threads 75% of the way"

    This.

Would love for a mod to merge all the transmission threads into one with gearcruncher's info at the top. All the threads are for the same thing. Low oil/shifting delay/gear hunting/not upshifting.

Changed search to transmission problems 6. Could not find. 7. Starting going through the threads and couldn't find. 8. Started thread.

    Thanks blkbelt42. I appreciate it.

..and how will that affect my warranty (if any)?

Are there any wax seals or objects that a Toyota tech would be able to check in order to discover if someone had worked on the trans?

Most transmissions have a fill hole and a drain hole. Best to read your manual and see where those would be and the procedure for checking fluid levels. OR take it to the dealer and have your oil changed - they check all the fluid levels at that first service. You can get that done anytime after 4K miles - that would be the 5K service and oil change with tire rotation.... AND the price is $0. Hard to beat IMHO and that makes Toyota responsible.

Clearly you did find those threads. As evidenced by your first sentenceL

"So after digging through the forums it's apparent that quite a few 2016s (with tow package) are coming low on trans fluid from the factory. People have reported that when the engine is cold and you shift from reverse to drive the transmission will "hang up" for a few seconds before engaging. I have noticed this on my vehicle."

That's why people are being hard on you for not posting this in one of those that you found.
