Mine moves a bit, I'll try to pay attention tomorrow to see how much mine moves but I know in rough terrain it likes to move a bit. It literally goes side to side when I do burn outs and get wheel hop. Honestly I figured toyota is using some sort of soft material for the mounts to reduce vibrations, causing it to move like crazy in more severe conditions. In my previous 4x4 the mount for the trans was solid so it would never move and I could feel the engine through the shifter.

Do you sense any vibration in the vehicle, like maybe badly balanced rear wheels?

Not sure TBH, but I'll watch it more closely this week, maybe drive on some rougher dirt roads.

Not that I have noticed. If I'm on real smooth road everything is perfect except for the glove box that won't stay closed no matter what I do.

It sounds like they're all over the map with these things. I wonder if the ones with the extra movement will wear the mounts or other parts out faster than the ones that barely move at all, like the silver TRD I test drove.

Looks normal to me, bouncing around about the same as the truck. Like others have said, the shifter is directly in the transmission, the transmission and engine move separately. Every stick I have ever driven that was directly attached to the transmission did that on rough roads. Remember the stick shit is not attached to the truck, it is attached to the transmission. Many would crap thyeir pants if the saw how much the engine and transmission moved on rough roads.

I tried to get a video of mine, but honestly it is hard to get good quality holding the phone because I bounce around too when the truck hits bumps. Having it mounted like the GoPro OP used definitely gives good quality, sorry I can't be much help, but when I go over harsh bumps mine moves a decent amount too. It honestly looks normal to me and is comparable to my Mustangs with manual transmissions I've owned. I've never had a Tacoma or truck with manual, so can't really compare there. I'm not concerned about it.

Thanks man! If the general consensus is that this is normal, and my independent mechanic gives it a green light, then I'll close the book on this chapter and start turning this truck into an off road, end of the world tank. Can't wait to see an ARB front end on her... [IMG]

I dunno, that ARB bumper looks like it increases the front overhang too much for my liking ... Seems it would maybe get caught more on stuff when off-roading, but I dunno ...

Hhmm.. you may be on to something there. Didn't think of that, but I could definitely see this affecting the approach angle. Looks fuckin SWEET though!

It does look kind of badass and I'm sure it could take the abuse just like everything ARB makes, they know what they're doing :)

Thinking about their air lockers too. This truck will be in full beast mode when I'm done. I live on 250 acres of bush, loaded with awesome trails, and I'm surrounded in thousands of km of logging roads and real rough country to play in. Just need to wrap this baby in lots of steel and get a kick ass winch before I go crunch anything expensive :itllbuffout:

:yay: I finally finished reading this thread.

... now that is unacceptable. Phone your lawyer.... or get some colour-matched duct tape, which is $195 cheaper.

Move to NB. Then you'll understand. I'm originally from Ontario. This is another planet. "Customer Service" is a completely foreign concept. I turned to a lawyer after being ignored and bullshitted for a solid week. They wouldn't even hoist the fucking truck up to look at it! As an Ontario native who is used to dealing with companies who actually give a shit about doing a quality job, I run out of patience quickly when dealing with shear incompetence and negligence.

That's not representative of the entire province. I've had good experiences at other dealers. I took the gf's Corolla to Saint John Toyota once and they noticed the water pump had a small leak. The service advisor told me, and asked if I wanted them to replace it. I already mentioned to him that my dad worked at another dealership and I could get parts at cost, so he offered to replace it under warranty, even though I was slightly outside the warranty period. He said he could go into the computer and take a few thousand km's off to make it look like the car was still under warranty. I left with a new water pump that cost $0.

Well, that's encouraging, maybe I'll head that direction for service. Out around this area 'Customer Service' is self serve, no matter if you're buying a car or trying to get your drink refilled in a restaurant. But.. in a province where a huge chuck of the workforce is only interested in working long enough to get their stamps...

My buddy's cousin owns a sports swag business. His factory was lured to Campbellton, NB, with Provincial gov't subsidies of about 2 mil to create work/employment in that area. My buddy was his Traffic Manager. They couldn't keep a steady workforce in the building. Everybody in shipping either started getting bad backs and go on comp, or like you say, those on the factory floor would stay the 10 weeks and go on poggie. Their comp rates skyrocketed. They were constantly training new employees, and just when the employee was trained and started making money for them, POOF, quit. They stayed less than three years because of that. One day they said fuck it, backed up the trucks, loaded up all equipment and inventory, and headed back to Ontario. They weren't happy, and the gov't was pissed too. They did bring back some employees with them. I am sure that doesn't speak to all of the workers in NB, but it certainly doesn't speak well for business. Oh, and his business has expanded tenfold, as opposed to the collapse he was facing.

It was zero cost to you but Toyota paid for it and dealer made money selling part and labor. In OP case part is $10(if it's just tranny mounts) and few hour labor. If they have to replace whole tranny under warranty they would probably take the job more sieiosly.

Part of the problem in NB is all of the seasonal jobs in small communities...fishing, forestry, farming. I used to be a forestry worker and only worked for 6-7 months per year, then got EI for the winter. There's very limited options for workers with no education past high school. If you were getting free money from the government, would you go work 40 hours/week for an extra $50? They just make it too easy not to work, but if they don't, all the seasonal workers will move out west. I don't know. I got tired of it so I went back to college at the age of 30 and became a power engineer.
