As an FYI......when I drive my wife's Jeep Sport MT, the shifter does bounce around when hitting bumps.

Mine bounces quite a bit offroad. I think that's normal.

Ya, the standard reply to that seems to be "It's a Jeep thing".

I've looked all over the internet, and I'm not seeing this as a "Toyota thing" so far. I see lots of very happy owners, and I really thought I was going to join that crowd.

I would expect quite a bit of movement (within the range of the rubber mounts) when driving off road. I don't even want to guess what mine would be like off road... I think I'd be worried about the tranny falling off at this point. Also.. the videos posted above... how many miles on that truck? I assume the rubber mounts will wear over time, increasing the amount of shake in the stick. If I'm shaking this bad brand new, I'm no mechanic mind you, but I have to assume it will only get worse over time.

The whole transmission is moving as is the engine, this is entirely normal.

The shifter on my F30 BMW 3-series wobbles too, although probably less than that since it has independent suspension (unlike a truck). I actually appreciate it, since the chassis and steering are rather devoid of feedback. The shifter is the most communicative tactile interface in that otherwise sterile car.

I would say the video posted is normal. What you are describing is not though. I've only used a couple dealers around here since my old man used to work at one of them, but the service you're getting is pretty surprising to me. Unfortunately, you can't really use another dealer without driving for close to an hour in this province. That's pretty appalling customer service though....I've got better service buying things that cost less than $20.

If you are having issues at the local dealer level, my suggestion is to speak with Toyota Canada and explain your concerns, that's probably your best bet for some sort of resolution to this issue.

The amount the shifter is moving in those videos is definitely normal.

Miramichi, but not for long. Once this is sorted out I'll move to dealing with Moncton. They've been WAY more helpful in this situation so far and I didn't even buy the truck from them!

Have you heard any problems with Moncton? I originally planned to go with them, but when I contacted the dealers in Moncton, Miramichi and Saint John via their online web form, only Miramichi got back to me, and they did so in under an hour. I never did get a reply from either of the other dealerships, even though I told them exactly what I wanted to buy in the initial contact.

I dunno... I'm from Ontario originally, so maybe I'm just not cut out for how business gets done in NB, cause I always seem to find myself fighting someone for what I paid for. I won't even get started with how bad the tractor dealership dropped the ball (also in Miramichi).

I bet it isn't either, my 21 year old engine and transmission mounts don't even move that much and they are worn way out.

You can bet all you want, but since you didn't drive the truck, and I did...

Obviously there is a broken mount allowing things to move further than they should. In typical NB style, the knee jerk reaction was to call someone else instead of looking into the job themselves. I'm sure this could have been sorted out quickly if they would have at least hoisted the truck off the ground and checked the mounts. But.. it's way easier to just call Toronto and then take the next 2 days off, leaving the truck in the hands of people who have no clue what stage it is at, and no access to your emails. Lets see what happens tomorrow when the service manager actually gets back to work.
