Plus, I just retired so I need small projects to keep me busy!
This along with a clunking transmission when new that was 1 qt. low but now shifts into drive and reverse smoothly, a rear dif that was 1 qt. 8 ounces low and a front dif that was 7 ounces low. The transfer case was filled. Go figure! Also had missing plugs on lower control arms causing occasional light howl. I easily fixed that for a few dollars. I tightened loose leaf spring bolts on rear axle and also fixed occasional ticking noise at right A-pillar. But, I really like the truck a lot.
Better than dealing with a 2016 F 150 Lariat 4X4 2.7 ecoboost with frozen locks, doors that won’t latch closed below 32 degrees, stuck blow off valve causing a turbo down on power, oil fouled back side of engine air filter noticed at 12,000 miles and dirty running engine with lots of PCV oil in intercooler requiring 3 dealer trips and many days without use of the vehicle.
I noticed the center of my Tacoma hood flapping at 45 mph when two weeks old in September. Passenger side blob of glue is 3 in diameter. No blob of glue on driver’s side of hood. Built in Baja. My neighbor across the street has a Tacoma built in Texas with small 1 inch blobs of glue.
I had an extra tube of GE silicone in the garage and just ran a wide bead around the entire length of all gaps. I then attached some 3/4 inch thick ‘engine compartment soft foam with silver foil heat shield sound mat’ pieces to the under side of the hood. It made a big difference in decreasing engine noise by maybe a few dB especially at engine start up.
    1. Silicone after application and prior to drying clear.
    2. Close up of gap with missing glue.
I just installed some Bilstein 5100 shocks set at .65 in. today. Replaced the Goodyear’s with 265/75-16 Falken Wilpeak AT3 a few days ago for 1/2 in. ride height increase. The small increase in ride height looks great on the front. Doing 1/2 in. rear leaf spacers tomorrow. We’ll see how it looks with the 150 pound canopy coming in a few weeks and go from there.
