This isn't about everyone else's truck. It's about comparing vehicles one might purchase.

Horrible resale value on domestics is the first issue. I would've much rather had a GM than Toyota, but wasn't willing to spend $150/mo more for one. The Ford looked decent up front, but wasn't worth the risk of having a serious issue that's plaguing more than "less than 1%". The 2018 redesign was done to try and fix some issues, not a great sign.

And I guess it's splitting hairs when I'm in a brand new decently "outfitted" Tundra that doesn't even come with power locking tailgate, sports a junk navigation/info system that hasn't seen an update in over 12 years, gas mileage that's laughable, etc...

I'm okay with the Tacoma, but if you get the right one...
From front to back: low transmission fluid, leaking timing cover, CPS, drive shaft vibration, rear differential howl, rear differential leak.

Funny- I see way more problems with the 12th gen trucks then the 13th gen. I work in ford dealership. Haven’t really seen many new body f150’s in the shop all torn down. I few of the older ecoboost had some turbo issues and the carbon problems but they are fixed with the new gen motors. Like already stated, every manufacture has issue. They sell and produce them faster than any other automaker. Every minute another is rolling out of the Plant. People didn’t conplain as much as they do today, vehicles didn’t have half the features and electronics the had 10-15 years ago. Complaints will only increase. I’ve seen people complain they need to change their oil. Or complain they have to take 25 minutes out of their day to get their vehicles serviced. Just like people bitching here about stupid petty shit, people will bitch in the F150 forums. Ford makes a great truck, and that’s the reason they have been #1 for 30 years or so

There is no denying Toyota will be more reliable. But there are obvious reasons why. They’ve always been conservative. They develop a mediocre engine with average numbers and don’t change much of anything for a decade or more (do note they all had teething issues at the beginning). Compared to Ford, where R&D is bustling with new ideas and innovation. You get new tech, “better” engines, at the cost of some reliability. So which to choose? Depends on your appetite for risk and desire for new tech and better performing trucks.

For me, if I were to go back to a full-size, no doubt it’d be the f150. They got so many things right. Mine performed flawlessly, towing heavy loads and carrying us in comfort. Ecoboost is an awesome engine, in my opinion, that tows up steep mountain passes like diesels and gets 20+% better MPG than a Tundra. And did I mention it is FAST?!

Anyway, thanks for the post, OP. Hope it at least helps open eyes of some brand loyal folks.

The word on the street is that F-150's are regularly hitting the 200,000 mile mark without major issues. In the recent past you had to start looking for another car at the 100,000 to 150,000 mile mark.

I was in a Ford dealership getting oil change service on my wifes Escape and I talked to an F-150 owner sitting near me in the waiting room. He had been going back to the dealership repeatedly with his new F-150 because it kept breaking down and leaving him stranded. I'd be pissed if I had a new vehicle that broke down like he described. I got the impression that Ford was taking good care of him. Perhaps he got a lemon...

Ive owned 10 F150s, and pretty much all of the generations in that time frame, never had a single problem until I bought my 2016, and it was all downhill from there. The fuckery that came with that truck was astounding and every time I went to the shop in my area, there were a number of them there being torn down. Just because you havent seen it, doesnt mean it isnt out there. My ecoboost decided it was time to eat itself and it did it in a spectacular fashion.

The customer service division of Ford is a complete joke. They only call you once every two weeks or so during your case with them. When you are passed off to the buyback team, its even worse. They seriously lack in the customer service at the corporate level, making toyota look far superior.

Haha - if only going to the dealer and dealing with the deadbeats only took 25 minutes. Hell, it takes them 25 minutes to get my truck "from around back" after I sign the service paper work stating "normal operational characteristic."

I cannot wait for Toyotacare to expire; I dread going to the dealer for the services, it's a day ruining affair.

They will definately care less. Thats the Toyota moto lol. They sell the shit out of most of their stuff anyways.

All Im saying is eventually they are going to take a stand against the majority of the market offering real new tech and platforms or they are going to lose market share, or keep losing it.
They tried with the Carollla and just recently with the Camry to win back the peoples.
And I hope Ford offers something narly up in the power department so Yota can pull their balls up and answer with some bolt on besides a fart can and filter.

Turbo for the 3.5 ?? Or like you say super charger??? :fingerscrossed:

I got rid of my 2012 XLT F-150 because it just felt too big and it barely fit in the garage. If it was a foot shorter I would probably consider one. I'm waiting to see what the new ranger will be like.

If Ford's are so great why are you driving a Tacoma? Just asking.

People drive vehicles based on their needs, not simply because they are "great". Tacoma's are superior off roading for example.

    Not rocket science.

Although I know Toyota builds better quality stuff, I'd still buy an F series but I'd maybe get an extended warranty, especially on a truck with a new engine or a new model refresh.
Ford builds way better products than the idiots at Chevy and Dodge and they are the way to go when considering full size, IMO.
Toyota needs to step up and shock the world with Tundra. They can do it and I hope they do.
As far as the Tacoma is concerned, while I love my truck I often feel like I made a mistake. First time in this fanboy's life that I've been pretty disappointed with Toyota. 40k should have got me more but I chose to buy it so honestly there's no one to blame but myself.
Still rooting for Toyota to get it right.

2018 Ford looks lame compared to 15-17. Still would buy a Tundra before a F150.

I am ready for a Tacoma just because I want a smaller truck. I bought my 2013 F150 FX4 ecoboost in 2013 and have 60,000 miles and haven’t had a single hiccup. One of the reasons I want the Tacoma is because of the safety features which everyone here seems to hate. Wife’s Lexus has them and I like it. Really wish they had car play though.

Never had any issues with my F-150 (5.0 motor in it). It was a work horse. Like any vehicle (to include Toyota), you can pick it appart....

You will always have a group of "complainers"...
