Yea that's good stuff. I recently tried to go up a hill like that but a lot steeper not pulling a runner. Anyway I tried it twice locked rear and couldn't make it. There was a hump about 3/4 of the way up that the front wouldn't hold. On the 3rd try I put ATRAC on and got to the same place and that hump was trying like heck to stop me again but ATRAC was barking, clicking, and spitting (my wife thought something was seriously wrong) but I made it. It is awesome except for the god awful noises it makes. Same for DAC though. It works so that's what matters. If it's not inc in the crawl control that would be a shame. My guess is it is. Just another automated thing. I'd rather see a button, and would rather have a J shift TC for that matter.

atrac is like auto lsd on crack. works on all 4 wheels (unless the rear is locked because there is no point, at which point it will work on the front two), and will go as far as completely stopping a tire if its in the air.

A-TRAC makes use of the much better electric boosted master cylinder on the 4x4 OR's. This master cylinder operates at greater pressures and has much more ability to control the wheels. In fact there is no need for a separate abs unit like there is on NON trd or 4x4's as the master cylinder handles it all.

Is it confirmed A-TRAC will be included on 2016 O/R? Lack of the button to turn it off notwithstanding. The press release confirmed the rear locker stays.

Would be stupid if they eliminated A-TRAC.

Neither confirmed or denied , my observation was that there doesn't seem to be a seperate ATRAC button with the other traction controls ( MTS , Crawl , locker ) , I didn't realize that observation was going to touch of a revisit of the ATRAC Wars of 2010

It may make sense that ATRAC is now a part of Crawl Control

I would tend to agree with OZ that they have phased out the A-TRAC button, as it would seem obvious that once you have turned on Crawl Control that you would be needing additional traction afforded by A-TRAC.

As seen here there appears to be no indicator cut-out for the familiar "ATRAC" light, but all of the rest of them are there. I cant quite make out what that one just above the RMP needle hub is though...

It would be a shame if they dropped such an easy software controlled mode for no reason, especially since I have never heard of A-TRAC causing any reliability/durability issues.

I think we can conclude at this point that it's either gone, or integrated and only able to use it while the truck is controlling the throttle and brake for you below 5mph.

So pretty safe to say the 16' TRD OR will no longer have ATRAC functionality in 4HI.

Atrac has only ever worked in 4lo.

You're right, it's TRAC when your in 4HI, and ATRAC when in 4LO. It probably is integrated into crawl then. For some reason I was thinking I could use ATRAC in 4HI.

I thought I knew how ATRAC worked, but have been wrong a couple times in this thread along with others. I'm starting to think maybe this is why they want to simplify it, it's pretty confusing with all the controls we currently have available in the 2nd Gen OR.

Or it could be active in some or all of the 4LO MTS modes

I'll definitely go have a look at them when they hit lots here

AUTO LSD is 2WD LIMITED SLIP TRACTION CONTROL (TRAC) without engine regulation... aka TRAC OFF (Traction Control with regulation off). There is some spinning, but is very helpful to move ahead in 2WD. Like Posi-Traction.

A-TRAC is 4WD LOW RANGE AUTOMATIC NO SLIP traction control, looks and works very much like a locking differential in matching tire rotation across the axle. It doesn't keep the tires locked, so you can steer easily, but as soon as a tire begins to spin, it auto-locks it to the non-spin tire rotation so power is shared 50-50.

A-TRAC is a far easier to use system than is TRAC/TRAC OFF, imo. You just press the A-TRAC button one time when you first go into L4, and never press it again!

Perhaps the 2016 will naturally be in A-TRAC every time you are in L4? That's what I do, and I have found NO reason to not have as much traction as possible in low range.

Interestingly , after doing a bit of reading , it seems that the TRD Sport , Offroad and Limited all get the MTS , so if ATRAC is automatically active in the 4LO MTS modes that would mean the Sport would basically have ATRAC as well

I wonder if that means that in fact the ATRAC system is not part of the MTS then
