Yes. I have had 0 problems with the trans or drive train.

I checked fluid levels and color (paper towel in the top fill port) on diffs and transfer case every 30k, replaced diffs and transfer fluids at 65k ish miles.

No discoloration or excessive metal dust/fragments. I didn't want to mess with transmission fluid myself. Not sure what the service interval is on that but I have to be close at the duty cycle I drive at.

Thanks for the info. The best thing about these forums is first-hand experience that can be used by other members. Sucks that this happened to you, but it gives the rest of us a heads up for potential issues, especially for those who tow. Now that these trucks are aging a little bit, we'll start seeing the real issues as opposed to "I expected my $40k+ truck to make waffles for me every morning. Thanks for nothing, Toyota."

If it is anything like an earlier Toyota V6 I worked on, replacing the water pump is not hard but it is a pain in the butt. While it is easier with the radiator removed, there is still a fair amount of time you have to spend on replacing the pump.

Isn't the AISIN water pump 50-60 bucks? Too bad you didn't have a second vehicle and had to hit up the dealer.

What exactly failed on the pump?

They said the front bearing went, it sounded like a jar full of marbles periodically. It had just started dripping so complete failure was imminent.

71k still seems too low for a water pump, and Aisin makes good ones. Wondering if you just had a one-off bad pump, or it wasn't installed quite right from the factory.

Bad factory parts happen, including bearings. I had a Ford with a bad wheel bearing at 14k miles...
