2016 TRD Sport V6 Transmission Shudder (low fluid from factory)

Ok dumb question I looked all over and looked in Man. And I still can't find my Transmission dipstick on my 16 Taco.

 

There is no dipstick, that is why the Techs are not checking the fluid during the PDI, it is a long process.

Picked up the truck Saturday and what a huge difference. The shudder is gone and shifts much smoother. However, much like "metdfd" I still notice it takes a couple of seconds to go in to gear from park when cold. The dealer told me to wait until later this week so the information updates in Toyota's system and call corporate to see about getting a free extended warranty on the transmission. I'll post how that works out. I am sure it won't be difficult at all.

 

That was kind of the dealer instructing you to call corporate and ask for extended warranty on the transmission .
I suggest everyone having low fluid issues to do the same

 

I brought mine to the dealership for the same tranny issues everyone else is having. The official report was that everything was fine and that's just how they are. Shudder, delay, surging, etc.
All of it. Whatever. The trans was a pint low, but unfortunately a fill up has made zero difference on any of the issues. But according to the dealership, I have no issues

 

because the fluid expands as it heats up.

Are you having issues with your transmission ? If you dont have the tow package , you shouldnt have the thermostat .
The fluid check procedure does NOT open the thermostat ,it would take too long to cool the transmission to work on .
The drain and fill procedure on the Toyota 6 speed AT is different than that of traditional transmissions. Since this transmission has no dipstick to check fluid level, the correct level must be confirmed by an overflow plug on the bottom of the pan. The fluid temperature MUST BE between 46°C (115°F) and 56°C (130°F) to accurately check the fluid level

 

To guarantee that the transmission cooler is properly filled .
If you skip the pinning procedure when the transmission is cool , there is no way to tell that you have the transmission cooler filled .
This is what a lot of us believe happened at the factory when the cooler was completely empty .
They forgot to pin the thermostat . Speculation mind you .
There are very few 2 wheel drive trucks complaining about low levels

You needed to bypass the thermostat when checking the fluid with the tow package on the early tundras . If you skip that step in the fill procedure , your transmission cooler didnt get filled .
The thermostat is mechanical meaning it would be closed at low temperature . In order to get a proper fluid level check you want to make sure your transmission cooler is going to be filled

The toyota information system contents toyota vehicle repair manual which used to be PDF links, it's now chm mode which is only webpages. I am trying to download the manual for my vehicle in two days and here is the fastest way I figured out.

Please share if you have better idea. I can't make those hyper-link work since they all became image in the pdf files.



Tools you will need


Firefox

PDFCreator

TIS login account ($15/2 days)


Install PDFCreator, create a new profile, change the Auto-save option; Change the filename to <Title>, update the directory for auto-save. You need create a new printer to use this new profile, which can auto save your pdf to particular folder.



Login TIS and open the repair manual, for the first page, make sure you selected the new PDFCreator printer as your current printer and print your first page, double check the pdf file at the auto-save folder and make sure that fits you want. I took the footer and header off so it looks much nicer.


For firefox, type “about:config” in the address bar and add print.always_print_silent as Boolean and set it to true.


Now, for each page you click on the left, there is a print icon on the top right corner, click that will print a new pdf file to the auto-save folder. For each page, you will need two clicks to save to pdf format.


Go through all your pages and hit the printer icon. You should be able to download the repair manual in couple hours. The PDF files will have the full text title in the pdf file name, which you can easily search.


I got my two vehicles' repair manual done in 7 hours.
