Why wouldn't the off-road manual have a sunglasses caddy?? No crawl knob there

Sport and OR are the same price. Instead of the OR capability, they paint the fender flares, add the hood scoop, paint the rear bumper instead of chrome and give you bigger wheels. They also give you a bumper skirt. To me even if you don't go off roading, you get way more bang for your buck with the OR, especially that that OR is now available with the long bed.

does the break booster on the OR get covered under the 5yr. 60k mile warranty?

the OR has a diffrent break system than the Sport.
The sport is conventional vs new tech on the OR.

How reliable will the OR brake system be? how much more $$$$ if it breaks?
    Pun intended haha:rimshot:

thats why im leaning towards the sport. I would get the SR5 but the Sport
already comes with the upgraded stereo and I heard that those shocks are
higher quality. Maybe the best shocks avaliable if those Bilsteins are basic.

That is the second time I have heard someone say the Sport handled better on the road then the OR as far as comfort, do we think that changed from 15 - 16? I read something that it was modeled after desert racing model so bumps at speed would be important. Has anyone driven both?

Please only post facts in this thread.

The Sport comes with Hitachi shocks. They are upgraded from the SR5.
The Off Road comes with Bilstein shocks, which are better than Hitachi. Bilstein doesn't make great shocks, though. They will work well on the highway and at low speed offroading.

My observation from driving 16' Sport, 16' Offroad and 15' Offroad .. the 16' offroad and '15 offroad ride felt the same. The 16' SPORT felt stiff and bouncy on side streets and going over speedbumps. The offroad felt much smoother/softer...more cushion. My conclusion is that the Hitachi Shocks are a downgrade in quality.

The brake system used in the Off-Road is different, but not entirely new, it has been used in the Tacoma since 2009 in some models and a similar setup has been used in other Toyota/Lexus models since the mid-90's.

It is more expensive to repair though.

Is there a threat for Votes?
curious to see what % of us want what spec/trim from below choices:

Which one is the most desired here on TW!

    SR SB
    SR5 (SB or LB)
    TRD Sport (SB or LB)
    TRD Off-Road (SB or LB)
    Limited SB

Regardless of which shocks are with what package, doesn't bother me. I've driven both and currently have the 2012 sport...never had issues offroading...like to think my driving has a bit to do with it...I will always have my A-track function shut off, same goes with all these gimmicky traction features...I'd probably just shut them off. Born and raised in northern Canada, I'l gladly push the Sport as far as it needs to be....sport it is:)

Smitty99, did you mean to say the '16 SPORT felt stiff and bouncy on the side streets and going over speed bumps?

Wait, you said the '16 off road is stiff and bouncy, but then said its softer more cushion. So which is it? Did you mean the sport? Thanks for clarifying.

    2.7 A/T and 3.5 A/T without Off-Road gets 8.0"
    2.7 M/T, 3.5 M/T and 3.4 A/T with Off-Road gets 8.8"

Off-Road gets locker, none of the others do.
