hello guys. I want to do something like this to my blue 2016 trd tacoma https://www.pinterest.com/pin/329888741435346812/

anyone have any suggestions on what would be the best/affordable way to do this? i was thinking of using some kind of spray but im not too good at this and i dont want to screw up my trucks grill. I think the black would look amzing with my blue especially cause i have black "TACOMA" letters and black rims and tires. im not looking for the little trd symbol on the grill just the grill to be black.

    thanks

It looks like they plasti dipped the whole grille. You could probably get a paint shop to do it, it's not like it would cost an arm and a leg

Its like what @Anchovy said, they just plasti-dipped the grille. Process is pretty easy, actually. Just need to pull the grille off the front of the truck, remove whatever bezels/other you don't want painted and apply several coats (7-8 or more is ideal in case you decide you want to remove it). Then let dry for a while and you should be good to go! First picture is from when I swapped out my fogs, but it shows the idea of what you'd need to do. Second is of finished process. Hope it helps!

That I wouldn't. I expect that the cost would range depending on how you'd get it painted (there are a few different ways to paint the thing). Honestly, this is one of the easier projects that I'd say go for it yourself! It isn't too hard, would only cost like $15 maybe, and you'd have the experience and ability to say "I DID THIS!"

It would literally take you like 30 minutes to do it and 5-7 dollars for a can of plastidip. I'd take a stab at it first. I'm sure someone could help you for free.

just take it off and do it your self like he did, plasti dip is so easy to work with just do a minimum of 5 coats so its easier to take off if you ever decide too

I personally did not. I learn best by doing so I tend to ignore instructions unless I get really stuck. I'm sure there are plenty of videos/DIY instructions available you can steal.

This. Just make sure your spray is even and consistent. That's all you really need to do and it isn't that hard to do

I did the paint on my OEM grill before switching it out. Its remarkably easy to find videos on youtube about taking the front grill off your truck... you legit only need a flat head screw driver. I used 3.5 cans of black plasti dip i bought at home depot for like 9$ (Per can) of Canadian funny money.
Definitely start with very mild coats of plasti and keep applying layers as it drys. Might take you 1-2hrs and then let that shit cure overnight in a warm environment so it doesnt peel. This shit will last years, and if you get pitting from rocks, just spot treat it nd respray those spots.
    Good luck man :headbang:

I'mma say that you didn't have to take apart the whole front end of the truck to get to the fogs, I went straight in from the wheel well

Mine wasn't just a bulb swap. Changed the build entirely (installed LED pods) and had to install new mounting brackets. I tried the wheel well originally and it technically would have been doable, but really annoying. I also wanted the experience of pulling the entire assembly apart so I knew what went where and how.

Eh. To each their own. Process still worked, happy with the end result, and I learned something now. Can't complain

How to remove/install headlight, for example. Improved some wire management. Etc. May not matter to you or others, but its enough for me.

Wire management matters to me because I have to somehow hook up a compressor, a three way switch for the horns, solenoid for the air horns, and a master switch for the compressor
