It’s likely the foreman will oversee the service, or even help. It will not be done by inexperienced techs. Especially since corporate is involved.

They know these engines like the back of their hands. So, getting everything put back together, not a problem.

As far as inspections go, they will perform a check, marking individual components as they go (you may see little sharpie marks, not EVERYTHING will be marked) It’s unlikely that you experience further complications as a result of the tear down.

These TC leaks are not uncommon, even if they claim so, as a result.. you’ll have a fine working machine when it’s all said and done.

I am the original post of this issue. I got my Tacoma back today, 8 days. It seems good. The timing chain cover was removed, they resealed it (not a gasket) along with many other gaskets. They thoroughly cleaned the front of engine and power steering pump so any subsequent leakage should be visible. According to the service order and looking with my eyes, they replaced the coolant, they replaced the oil and filter, I got a new water pump (on invoice, can’t see it) , I got a new drive belt (can see). The total cost was $2893 and it was completely covered by my $0 deductible Platinum Toyota Financial extended warranty. The new trucks come with a lifetime power train warranty but it excludes gaskets and seals so would NOT have covered this repair. The Toyota financial warranty does not exclude gaskets and seals. I tell you, you must read fine print. I feel kind of luck. My warranty expires March 23, 2023. I have 59,400 miles on my 2016 TRDOR and am kicking around the idea of selling it and buying a 2023. I am not sure what I can get for my Tacoma but prices are falling.

"The new trucks come with a lifetime power train warranty"
At my dealer that is only if you get all the service done as specified in a brochure they have, such as even tire rotations, fluid changes, etc etc etc. Lot of expense. Miss one and the warranty does not apply they said. Who is going to warranty an engine for 500K miles ? That's how they can afford to state 'lifetime' or deny it. Over the years it adds up as dealers are expensive.

My dealer has the same lifetime power train warranty. The exclusions lists “ gaskets and seals” as not covered. So this expensive timing chain cover oil leak I had would not be covered under that warranty. However the Toyota Financial Platinum Service Agreement I had only excludes wear items (brakes, tires, etc), interior type stuff, and heater hoses and vacuum hoses. It covered this failure. But a warranty like this is not free. Mine was given to me for having a seriously underfilled front differential. I only checked it because of the underfilled automatic transmissions in 2016, that had factory tow packages. I always check the rear diff, transfer case, front diff and auto transmission fluid in a new vehicle because the damage from underfill can be expensive. Of course the engine oil and other fluids as well which are easy and routine to check (power steering, brake fluid, engine coolant, etc).

I am the OP and the title is misleading as it was the timing chain cover that was leaking. Got fixed about 3 weeks ago and seems good. Was checking fluids today and with hood up found a loose hex bolt/washer laying next to a hood hinge (side at base of windshield). The bolt has marks on the flats indicating a wrench was on it. It’s about 3/4” long and 1/4” diameter. There are many of these on engine like holding down the spark plug coil packs. I am taking back to dealer tomorrow AM to see if the Tech can find the empty hole? The engine was removed to reseal the cover so many things taken apart. I noticed in the engine bay there are some threaded holes not used on some metal components and some plastic (intake) components. I am really bummed because when I called the service writer he looked up my ticket and suggested they ordered a lot of new hardware and it was probably just not used. The service order had NO fasteners of any kind ordered. Plus the hex bolt has marks on the flats showing it was removed from something. I expect the Tech to find the empty hole and install the bolt. Is that the attitude you guys would have ? I already have a trust issue because there is a yellow foam heat shield over the rear spark plug on both sides of engine. The one on the driver side is torn in half and was perfect before going in. You need to remove it to replace the spark plug. I pointed that out when I picked up truck and was told they sometimes tear on their own. That may be true but mine was not torn. I distinctly examined it before going it, planning how to replace plugs. They usually don’t let me speak to the Tech because they are busy. And the service writer is not very knowledgeable. What would you guys do? I just want the truck put back together correctly. If I go to pick it up and they tell me it’s fixed now but can’t show me the location that was missing the bolt I will not believe them since I have already been misled. The truck seems to run fine and nothing is leaking yet. I’m sure the repair was tough but I don’t want any missing bolts.
