Since people seem to like this sort of thing for some reason.

    2GR-FKS-equipped 2016 Tacoma V6 chassis codes:

GRN305 - 4WD Access Cab and Double Cab Short Box
    GRN310 - 4WD Double Cab Long Box
GRN325 - 2WD Access Cab and Double Cab Short Box
    GRN330 - 2WD Double Cab Long Box

2TR-equipped model codes are staying the same for 2016 as the engine block designation did not change.

    TRN245 - 4WD
    TRN265 - 2WD

5-lug models (TRN225 and GRN225/equivalent) are as has been reported previously, no longer being produced.

Yeah i almost feel like toyota pulled the new tacoma out of their asses instead of taking the time to design it. I mean the interior is great but the exterior doesn't flow like the 2005-2015 does. It feels rushed and half assed for everything.

Almost feels like this was supposed to be the 2012 refresh and they just postponed it because they had no reason to change things up.

That's how I felt when I saw it. The 2012 refresh was cool but I felt it lacked any real substance other than a new front end. The new tacoma though is what should have appeared in 2012.

Yeah the exterior change on the gen 3 is pretty comparable to how the 2014 Tundra was updated, but actually a bit less of a change. Tundra basically just got new skins. Tacoma only got new skins on front/rear.

I would think the Tacoma is a bigger change than the Tundra, unless we are just talking about the exterior. The Tundra got new front and rear body work, but the doors and cab are basically the same, much like the new Tacoma. They both got new interiors, but at least the Taco got a new engine and transmission and some additional features. Don't get me wrong, I really like the new Tundras, but I think Toyota could have updated the drive train. I think they put a little more effort into the Tacoma.

Looks are highly subjective. To my eyes, the new Taco looks good.. and when I look at my neighbor's 2nd Gen Taco, its front facia looks dated, just like the Gen 1 does in comparison to Gen 2.
At any rate, it looks like the mid size truck market is getting some attention: GM is back in, Honda's coming back and Nissan will have a new truck soon. I just wish VW and Ford would too. Competition is always good and tends to improve the product.

Not saying it's a bad truck. I'd like to own one. Just seemed most people were hoping for much more from the segment leader. Let's not forget Santa Cruz might jump in the market too.

It didn't shake up Toyota enough to wake them up.
