Took my weather tech window deflectors off my 2016 tacoma SR5 before trading it in for a 2021 tacoma pro. I tried to put them on my 2021 yesterday but all the windows wouldn't roll up for some reason. The front two windows struggled about 3/4 closed and would roll down when I tried rolling them up (I'm assuming some new safety mechanism so you don't roll your arm up in the window) and the rear windows did the same thing as soon as they would close up, they would roll back down. I tried adjusting and reinstalling about 3 times before I gave up and couldn't get the problem to stop.

is the 2016 weather tech window deflectors really that different from the 2021? I assume if weather tech even addressed this they just made the strips that go in the window thinner? has this happened to anyone else and how did you fix it? (tried looking in search but couldn't find this answer anywhere)

When I looked it up they show same part # for those years.

This happened to me when installing some on my ‘17 T4R. You just have to push & hold the deflectors out of the way for the window to roll up. Once it’s up you need to let it sit for a couple days without rolling window down. Then you should be okay going forward.

At least that’s how it worked for me.

I had the same thing happen in both tacos with the same WeatherTech parts. Took a few days to work properly. i had to intermittently send the window up a bit at a time each time I used it, instead of all at once. Eventually it will worked fine.

The first time you roll the windows up after installing, roll them up just short of the glass going into the window channel, then just bump the up button until they're completely up. (This gets around the "safety" feature that keeps little Johnny from getting his head caught.) Leave it up for about 48 hours for the window to seat itself. All should be good then.
