Chevys garbage. The local dealership in my town sales chevy and toyotas, they move all the chevys to the front lot and toyotas to the back. I asked why? Salesman stated they were getting chewed on for not selling any chevys, then mentioned no one wants them.

I guess that is the big question many have......are GMs still junk? GM has a deservedly poor reputation for the junk they put on the road in the 80’s, 90,s 2000’s, but there’s nothing saying that can’t change. I suppose time will tell. They could turn it around if their new midsize is reliable and the interior doesn’t fall apart.

    True story:

When I test drove the ZR2 the wiring for the front and rear lockers were switched. You pressed the front locker button, the light for the rear locker came on and vice verse. When we drove as second one, the front engaged but the rear switch was apparently faulty - it finally engaged after pressing the button 9 or 10 times.

Then after the rear locker engaged, we disengaged it. Light went off but the locker was very obviously on.

These issues have been noted on the twins forums.

I'd like to believe that GM turned a corner, but I just can't feel it. Every time I drive something of theirs that I like (say the Malibu two gens back), it was nicely styled but drove like they engineered it by committee. And, the slushboxes still shift like they used to in the 1980s. Press more than half way down on the gas pedal, it will drop down many gears after a long wait and spin near redline for a second, then shift. All the while getting nowhere.

Then, you have the screw ups like the ignition switches. $0.02 of engineering / cost would have corrected an unforgivable problem.

I'm not saying that Toyota is perfect, but. . . I had a Camry rental for an extended period. It was a snooze-fest to drive, but felt solid and did what I wanted it to do.

On the Taco end, the thing still feels like a truck. It has some character and a lot of capability. That fit for me.

I get GMs a lot for rentals, and their cars are still subpar IMHO.

I've also gotten their pickups a few times (Silverado, not Colorado) and they were honestly as good as anything out there.

I think all the big three realize where their bread is buttered (trucks) and take a bit more care in them than in their car lines.

I had a rental Silverado with the new 4.3 V6 multi-displacement and it ran very well, to the point where I was surprised it was a 6 and not the small V8.

I have not driven the new ZR2, but the previous Colorado generation was renowned for its milk-jug plastic interior bits.

This was a tough call for me because you can find super low mileage ZR2's with the Diesel on Autotrader for the TRD OR Tech pack price territory. I went with Taco because I promised myself years ago I wouldn't own another American automotive product after my 97 Blazer but GM has been headed in the right direction.

I looked at both the GMC Canyon and the Chevy Colorado and I was not impressed, the interior on the Chevy looked cheap and the GMC was 40k with a few decent options.

Holy shit that is expensive!

They must be having a hard time selling the GM twins, the sales guy was calling me non-stop.

Agreed. The big 3 know their trucks. I was pleasantly surprised at how well a new F150 rode. Interior layout was awesome, speed incredible, and overall fit and finish--dare I say as good as my Tacoma? Globalization in effect. These guys all pick from the same pool of engineers, designers, etc. I see QC, design, etc. flattening across all manufacturers.

I'd buy a ZR2 and have no problems with it. (Seats can't be any worse than my Taco). I do prefer the style of the Tacoma better and obnoxious resale value, which is why I picked it up over a Colorado.

10 years ago #3 read - GM is banking on less than 1% of drivers dieing and can suffer a few lawsuits for those that do. .............................................:boink:........too soon?
