Would resetting the ECU help? See if it can re-learn how to drive?

Any resolution for this? My 2019 is doing the exact same thing...gotten all TSBs done and filled trans fluid which was low 1 quart. I get average of 17-20 mpg city now, but transmission wont shift out of 5th on highway with cruise on, unless i bump gas pedal or use sport manual shifting. Even when using sport manual shifting it will shift on its own back to 5th and runs at 3-3.5k RPM. Plus 90% of the time i set my cruise, it sets itself 1mph above the speedometer. Set it at 75, speedo will read 74 causing trans to stay in 5th gear trying to reach set speed....This is the only remaining issue with my 3rd gen and its causing me to get 10-15mpg highway.
Anyone have a resolution or fix for this, besides OVTune or PC? Thanks TW!

Will it shift to 6th on a lower speed limit flat road? Like if you go 50 mph steady?

I found my last trip on the highway when it was windy the truck wouldn't stay in 6th, just not geared for it. It has no issues in 6th going 50-60 mph on flat roads though. Also S mode shifting isn't really shifting. It just tells the truck what is the upper gear limit you wish to be in. So S6 is kind of like D. It will still shift 1-6 as required in S6.

Your 19’ was down a quart of tranny fluid ?? Knew this was an issue with 16’s and 17’s, thought it had been resolved with the 18-19’s. Got me paranoid now

Haven’t noticed any of this yet in mine at all ! I only have about 2500kms on it though. Was your doing this from the beginning? I wonder are the trucks destined for Canada vs US coming from different factories ?

Are many guys in Canada having this issue with there tranny’s or any issues ?

It was so windy yesterday when I was on the highway, it would hardly take 5th gear let alone 6th.

Almost need to be on a decline or have a good tailwind for 6th. This is what keeps me from loving this truck...

I got the same issue with the 2.7 double cab.

I've taken it to the dealer, and theyve told me nothing is wrong.

Get bigger headers, air filter, and muffler, the increase in hp should allow you to cruise in S6 on the interstate.

Personally, I keep that bitch in S5 and go 75mph. 15mpg sucks, but it is what it is. it's a toyota, it will last a dog's lifetime, that's what I keep trying to remind myself.

The worst is when a big truck passes me on the left and sucks all my draft out which makes the truck downshift into 4th at 5500rpms. That part really sucks lol

It is just living up to its trim package. ... in your case it’s “Limited” to 5th gear! I’d take it to the Dealership.

"It's behaving just like it's supposed to"

Is going to be the dealer's response.

If you take it 3 times for the same issue, you can then add your name to the pending class action lawsuit for that same issue.

Several posts on the same issue. I live in fla where it is flat and really didn't have an issue until I made a trip north and hit the hills. I spent 700 miles on and off the gas to make the tranny work the way it should and not get 16mpg.

I don’t understand, just hit the clutch and move from 5th to 6th. Done deal, I forgot now and then to use 6th but i don’t blame the Tacoma for that.

Who uses a clutch? Don't you know how to speed shift?

This does happen to me on windy roads even at just 65-70. Just depends on weather and terrain.
