2017 4x4 6MT

Got home today parked the truck. Later in the day went to start it and it just cranks. Security light flashes even after key is in the ignition. Nothing has changed using the same key. Remote unlocks the doors just fine. Any thoughts or suggestions?

 

Sounds like a problem with the transponder in the key. Do you have a different key that you could try?

 

I do. I tried both keys and both have the same outcome. I’ve had Toyotas all my life and never had this issue. Truck has 80k on it

 

Any aftermarket alarm system installed?

 

The truck is stock except for plus sized tires on factory rims. Truck is fully loaded with Nav and such. Does have a key though not push button start

 

Sounds like fuel issue, but I would start with the basics.
Any difference if you hit the Clutch Start Cancel ?
Unplug battery and wait a minute and then reconnect and try to restart.
Try jumper cables .
Next check fuses.
Check fuses that might not even have anything to do with fuel and ignition. Like brake fuse.

 

My guess is your battery is bad.

 

The truck cranks very healthy just doesn’t start

 

checked the fuses all are good. Clutch cancel doesn’t change anything. Put the jump box on it. No difference. The flashing security light even after the key is in seems odd to me.

It has gas in it. I suppose it could be a fuel pump but it just seems strange how the issue started instantly and the fact that the security light is flashing

 

Tried removing the negative for several minutes ? Caution this.might erase codes

 

yes I have tried that. Could possibly a bad key be causing this ?

 

I would think a bad key or missing security transponder signal would prevent the starter from even cranking (similar to if you tried to turn the key without pressing the clutch in). It's possible though... have you tried cracking open the key and replacing the battery?

What does the owner's manual say about the flashy light?

 

i have not tried to replace the battery in the key. I have two keys both do the same thing when attempting to start and both still work to lock and unlock the doors

 

If both keys have the same behavior, it's probably not the key.

Do you have a code scanner to see if any codes are being thrown?

 

I’m going to hook it to the scanner here shortly and will post the results

 

When you insert key into ignition, dont turn it...just listen for a faint whine from under the truck. Thats the fuel pump coming to life. Remove key then reinsert it and listen for than hum. No sound means no fuel

 

yes I can hear the fuel pump turn on

 

hooked up the scan gauge it shows no codes
