Looking at trading in too on a 4Runner, on my Tacoma the 2015 OR package came with electronic differential lock.

Not clear if the selectable lock diff is standard on any trim packages like my Tacoma, or its an option.

Thanks if you could clear that up for me, going to see whats left over on 4Runners this weekend. Sale of 18's should start in November I've read on the internet. May have to wait to see whats available in 18.

Also am not interested in the "brake actuated locking diff", not even sure what 4Runner is using for differential lock, assumed it was the same as Tacoma?

Can someone explain the suspension option xareas* and what if any trim package its associated with? Thank you.

My off road premium has a diff lock but only works in 4low. There is a mod just like the Tacoma, so it can be used in other gears. It also has the terrain crawl mode features like the new tacomas.

Suspension wise I think the pro comes from factory with a better setup than the off road models but it seems like some folks don't like that set up and would rather build their own. I'd like to assume toyota did a good job of figuring out the pro suspension setup as far as drivability but I don't have one and can only comment on the off road with KDSS which allows the suspension to move further at slow speeds. It was an expensive option but it does ride so much nicer than the 2017 Tacoma I turned in.

Would like to have the same lift as the Pro but its out of my price range. Does the Pro have the KDSS also? You can buy the OEM Pro suspension separately, or an aftermarket, and add it later.

I don't think the pro has the kdss option, but I'm wondering if you can run both. I'm more interested in the springs which are probably the parts that have been engineered to work with our rigs.

I've ridden in a few buck boards that have had the suspension done and it was a horrible ride. I'm 47 years old and not into wearing a kidney belt. Some of the kits are so stiff I don't see how it actually works

The locking diff is on the trail/off-road and pro models. It can be used in 4lo only, unless you mod that. It's standard on these trims. The xreas system is on the limited model and is a sort of awd system. Not sure exactly how it works. The pro does not have the option for kdss and the suspension is TRD tuned specific blisteins, so even if you bought the same suspension from bilstein it wouldn't be the same because TRD tuned it specifically for the pro setup. You can buy the pro suspension separately, either from toyota or someone else's take off. As far as on road manners, it rides very nice, doesn't nose dive was much as the other trim levels, and really rides smooth over bumpy gravel roads.
    Hope this helps you out!

    Thanks, lots of great info.
Which system were you referring to in that quote, the kdss or the Pro suspension?

edit;ah, gravel roads must be Pro

Can the pro shocks/springs be added to a kdss equipped rig?

I think** yes. I read somewhere someone doing something like that but it was a bit tricky because of the kdss lines and sway bar. Not sure if it was pro suspension or aftermarket tho.

Also.....the sway bar in kdss has disconnect which is why it allows more articulation from what I understand.

Original idea was to add oem pro suspension later, but looks like may need to wait another year for a new one, will check tomorrow, hopefully, what they value my trade in. Got busy today with unfinished projects.

Where we hunt we get going more than 15 mph so the kdss would have a negative feel above 12mph. So won't need the kdss for my situation, sounds like it would be nice for handling for those who drive aggressive on the street. Searching found that lifts less than 3" can be added to the trucks with kdss. But if your overlanding on a trail and trying to make time, the kdss is not for this type of use.

on the limited, you only have 4H normal, 4H locked center diff, 4L.

only time I use 4H locked is when I know I have to deal with moderate to big pillow drifts or icy road conditions on my morning commute at 5am which is about 15 miles 1-way to work. usually the highway plows are not out that early.
