Well I spent 8 hrs. at the Toyota dealer in Carson City NV yesterday getting the problems with my trans resolved, and it's like a completely different truck now and the trans works perfectly now.

I had called the dealer up a week ago last Wednesday asking them if they had checked the trans fluid level in the trans which they said they did not, and I also explained to them my concerns over the trans fluid level possibly being low after reading about many cases of the fluid lever being low on 2016 models on this forum.

So not liking that the Toyota dealer said that if they checked the trans fluid level and it didn't need any oil I would be charged $136, I hung up and called Toyota Corporate in Torrance CA. and expressed my concerns about the trans fluid level possibly being low and that I shouldn't have to pay for it to be checked on my brand new truck I just bought.

So they started a case number on my truck, and about a half hour after I got off the phone with Toyota Corporate I got a call from the dealer who set up the appointment I had yesterday. When I took the truck in yesterday I told the service advisor about when the trans is in drive mode the trans is shifting into 4th gear at 30 mph and trying to maintain a constant speed of 45 to 50 mph going up slight hills the trans is up shifting and down shifting very rapidly.

So long story short, the trans fluid was low on fluid and they did the reprogramming of the trans which is the same reprogramming that started with the 2016's. So the trans low fluid level problem as well as the trans needing to be reprogrammed is still a problem on the 2017's

Since I was so damn tired yesterday from having to get up at 4:15 am so I could leave my house and drive 65 miles over to the dealer so I could be the first in line for the service dept, and after being there for 8 hrs. and wanting to get back home, the service advisor was having problems with his computer printing out my paper work, So he is going to mail it to me so I could get going.

So as soon as I receive the paper work showing what hey did to my trans and how much oil trans fluid was added, I'm going to call Toyota Corporate back up and ask them to extend my power train warranty as I had put almost 500 miles on the truck with a low trans fluid lever an improper programming of the trans which could have easily caused damage to the trans shortening its life even though it's working correctly now.

Overall I was very pleased with the way Carson City took care of the problem, and besides the trans working perfectly now, I picked up between 1.5 to 2 MPG better gas mileage after the trans work was performed, and I hit 23.5 on the fuel display coming home yesterday for the first time and that was traveling at 75 to 80 MPH.

It's working great, and yet you still want more....
I would hate to work at a dealership.

I'm not hitting up the dealership, I'm hitting up Toyota Corporate, as like I said even though the trans is now working as it should have been from the get go, I put almost 500 miles on the trans with it low on trans fluid and not shifting properly, so it could still cause problems down the road.

its great its fixed now, but I don't blame the OP for requesting Toyota extend the warranty. Its a know problem that should not have carried into the 17s, also who can blame any one for trying to protect their investment as no one can be certain there was no damage to the tranny. Besides, what happens at 75K miles and the tranny shits the bed.

Low trans fluid on a brand new truck is unacceptable should have been rectified along time ago

If it was me, I would start contacting consumer protection and Highway safety. If every one with these issues keeps reaching out to the government agencies, that will put more pressure on yota to fix this shit.

Reach out to government agency. You would be lucky to get those lazy Feds to answer the phone

well, at least we can annoy them by making the phone ring. And you got to try something, yota needs some pressure put on them, stuff needs to be documented.

But to each is there own, I know if it was me, I would not sit idle and wait for someone else to push my issues.

I got a free 100k/7yr platinum warranty on mine by complaining to Toyota corporate about low atf on my 16. It's well worth asking for this if you haven't already.

Did you ask for the warranty or did you call to just make a complaint about the issue and they offered it?

Low transmission fluid again on a 2017....what is Toyota drunk?

Sorry to hear this OP but this is just proof that QA/QC and quality improvement at Toyota is now at GMC/Ford/Chrysler levels. Like others have said - this 2016 problem should have been rectified a long time ago. Can't wait to people saying in large #'s their frames are rusting.

I told them this was my first new vehicle ever and that I could have purchased any brand but went with Toyota for reliability and was truly disappointed in my brand new truck being low on atf. I told them I wanted an extended warranty to cover any long term or unknown damage that may have happened in the 800 or so miles I drove with low atf. They called me back a couple days later and granted me the warranty with the start date being that day and not the date of purchase.

Might need to give them a call. I drove about 1000 miles before I had mine checked. Did you call toyota customer service or toyota financial services?

Anyone in here who in fact had their fluid levels found LOW bother to monitor transmission temps? Using the Scanguage with AT tempcode.

What made them do the transmission reprogram? I thought that TSB was only for the 2016's?

Anybody ever think that maybe its just really hard for dealers to accurately check levels on this new closed transmission they've never worked with before?

Toyota resolved this. I know everybody likes to shit on Toyota but they wouldn't let this continue. It's bad business and would come back to haunt them.

I suspect it's just really hard to accurately check the transmission precisely. The description of the procedure doesn't seem like it lends itself to a precise result anyway.

The paranoia seems to be compounded by the engine/tranny combo that causes the tranny to act differently from anything anyone is familiar with.
