I did most of the wiring today.

I used two general purpose relays and pig tail connectors and followed the diagram above. I decided to use the switch plug that was in my Tacoma's harness instead of splicing 3 wires from the new connector to that harness. I cut the yellow and pink connector wires from that plug higher up in the harness and soldered them to the relay wires.

The rest was pretty simple. Ran two wires from the relays along the floor track and back to the rear panel for the motor. Connected the relays grounds and switched 12v to the relay coils. Placed the relays back to back and secured them to a harness with a tie wrap.

Tested the relays and they activated when the switch was pushed. So far so good! Just need to run a 30 amp fused power circuit and connect the motor once the window is in place.

Now waiting to hear from the glass shop.

Wiring the power to the motor was easier than I first thought. There is a 20 amp fuse for a "rear door" in the fuse block. No rear doors in the access cabs so I tapped into that fuse for the motor supply. Edit: See next post!

Seeing that I now have a switch for the cab lights and while I had the cubby panel out, I thought about doing a future bed light mod.

A relay panel is located to the left of the main ECU. It has an empty slot below the top relay. That is where the cab light relay goes. While I had this out, I added a wire to the relays output (#5, lt green) and tucked it next to the kick panel.
Add a relay, connect that wire to the bed light and that mod is complete.

*Edit* (#5, lt green) Not grey.

The wiring diagram for the DC power window calls for a 30 amp fuse to power the window motor. The "rear door" fuse I was going to tap into was 20 amps and the fuse taps were only rated for 10 amps so I ended up running a 30 amp fused wire from the battery to the relays.

On a good note, my Taco is in the shop for the window install and I should be able to finish this up this weekend.

    Window installed!

Put the motor in today. Made brackets out of 1/8 x 1" aluminum and used 5/16 nutserts to mount them to the body.

...and the test! No adjustments were needed. I'll button it up tomorrow.

All buttoned up and the window is working "Wicked Pissah"! The biggest PITA in this project was working with the plastic trim pieces.

    Summary
    Material:
    • Rear window w/motor and switch panel from a 3rd gen double cab (I believe that window will also fit into 2nd gens). Ask the yard to include the wire connectors.
    • 2 aftermarket relays. I used the kind typically used when adding fog lights.
    • Wire, a 30 amp waterproof fuse holder and wire connectors.
    • Material to make motor brackets.

    Comments:
    • The rear window is glued to the body and needs to be cut out. This is best done buy a glass or body shop. Removing the seat backs and plastic including the ones on the pillars will save you some money.
    • The motor reverses by changing the polarity of the wires going to it.
    • As mentioned in other threads a double throw, momentary switch from a Sequoia can be used if you do not want to change out the cubby panel.

There are quite a few 3rd gens in scrapyards now. Not all list the rear window. The best bet for locating one (or other small Taco bits) is to search a site like car-part.com for a common part like a tailgate or door. That turns up a lot more trucks and may show one in a yard near you. Then it is just a call or message to find out if they have a good rear window.

I played around with the parts search today and noticed a rear window and regulator going for $250 in a yard 10 miles from my house. There were 25 listed across the country for under $400.

    There are deals out there.

Good luck OP, I’m sure everything will go smooth. I love my back power window and use it all the time! Btw, the Opel is one of my favorite cars and hopefully I will own one someday!

Gotta say that I love this mod. Use it all the time and the air flow is great. Just need to remember to close it at night, when rain is forecast... :annoyed:

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
Resurrecting old thread... I need to do this.

I've scanned the various threads on this subject and one thing I'm really curious about I haven't seen mentioned:

Where is the stock location for the rear window motor relays? ...is there an unused spot where the side window relays are located? ...and where is THAT?

I'm going to be searching for the parts and I wondering if there's a optional rear window control module.

When i ordered my access cab i requested the power sliding back window, so the truck came that way. No screwing around. Learned long ago if you want some extra option...let the manufacture do it.

Bought mine used. When you find the right version, in the right condition, with the right # of miles, for the right price, and maybe even the right color, you don't have the ability to pick and choose what accessories it does or doesn't have. Besides, a power rear window is not something I would have thought to order if I had the choice. My last truck was a Ford Ranger with the extended cab. A much smaller cab where I was able to just reach around to open/close the rear window. Didn't appreciate how far back the window was on the AC until I got it.

No regrets. I saved a bundle of money buying used and if I have to spend a few hours and a few hundred bucks making it what I really want... meh. The cost of this window mod pales in comparison to what I spent getting rid of those funky Toyota rear drum brakes.

Is that OPEL RECORD on the left? Somewhere 1985 - 88?
