Holy fuck. Either a proof reader at Toyota should be fired, or they ruined the 2017 MT and you guys with a 2016 auto got butt fucked...

Just remember the 4.30 gears on the manuals whine also. So expect the 2017 to do the same thing.

No other options though like 3.90 and this engine do not belong together since day 1 I knew it and I'm fine with them going to the 3.5 but to have an engine that needs 900 more rpm to get any torque you gotta counteract that with 4.30 ratio that's why the 4.0 worked so well with 3.73 it had more torque down low and besides the new tranny has another overdrive gear another reason to put in the 4.30.... Probly get better mileage as you wouldn't have to stomp on the thing to get up any sorta hill !

I can't believe they would go to 3.90 on the MT, my truck already feels pretty slow to get going.

Imagine an auto with 3.90 with some weight and bigger tires it's like I'm pulling a bus

Did I see power seats in the Pro? Wonder how much and how difficult to retro these into the '16?

Gear whine or not I'm glad I got the '16 with the 4.30:1 gears and not 3.9:1.

Damn straight says the MT guy... Hell with an automatic. No offense to those of you that have autos but I'll drive a stick till I either can't or they don't build parts to rebuild them. If they actually do/did do what the documents say they did they ruined the MT trucks for the 2017 year run. Hell I'd like to have 4.88:1 in mine or lower. If this is not a typographical error on Toyota's part they just made a mistake in changing the MT ratio from 4.30:1 IMHO. IDGAF about the fuel mileage I fill it now when it needs it and have owned and still own trucks that get half of what I get in the Tacoma.

I had a stick but it's just easier for off roading and hunting doing a lot of the things I do... not to have to worry about keeping that hand tied up. I drove a 2003 Tacoma 4x4 TRD OR with V6 M/T and it was an amazing truck. I still kick myself for getting rid of it at times. I just got sick and tired of commuting in Los Angeles rush hour in that thing, pumping the clutch.

I wouldn't necessarily believe this .pdf. Still could be a misprint. Changing rear end gears means different MPG and potentially new CAFE scores.

I doubt it would affect much they can't fix with a software update. Plus the higher speeds would potentially get even better gas mileage because 6th gear would be more useful

Yeah that is what I was thinking. Perhaps 6th gear would get more air time. What was the gear ratio on the gen 2 V6's?

The 4.30 gears are in the 2016 manual and it's making the howling noise too. Service manager today confirmed I should not lift truck or change tires he said leave it stock until they work out these issues with the suspension and rear diff.

If you read the blogs and reviews out there on other websites you see the backlash over the "gutless" feel of the trans and motor combo...dead gas pedal and shifting issues. I think this could be their answer to getting a little more low end power out of the truck to improve drivability....in combo with a refined software version of course. Like it or not 2016 tacoma drivers guinea pigs

I dunno, I will believe it when I see on the Toyota Tacoma specs page. Still 2016 stuff up now. I can see how some person filling out the spreadsheets mixed them up maybe.
