I'm hardly a harcore fanboy. This is my first Tacoma. I do like calling out absurd predictions though when I'm bored.

After seeing the 2016 roll out my plan changed from buying a GEN3 Tacoma to hanging onto my 2014 (great truck so far) and waiting for Ford to roll out their new Ranger. No way I'd buy one (or any vehicle for that matter) the first model year but based on the recent vehicles Ford has released I'm willing to bet the Ranger will be pretty bad-ass.

Your delusional if you think that.
    • Toyota's Truck market is the Tacoma not the Tundra.
    • Ford's Truck market is the F-150 not the Ranger.
    • Chevy's Truck market is the Silverado not the Colorado (GM equivalent too)
    • Dodge's Truck market is the Ram not the (nothing).

However if Toyota is making major changes (like re-gearing) it goes to prove 2016 owners were basically beta testers to an unfinished/unpolished product.

Yep. Beta testers indeed. Too many people are into the latest and I got tho be the first one to get the newest invention This also goes to show you that these companies are investing little into product testing When you have a good product it is all about sucking as much as you can out of it with little effort into research and testing. Some of these problems I see on this board could have easily been prevented with proper company beta testing

You do realize that earlier today you were arguing that sales are slowing considerably, and used that idea as evidence that it is a sub par product? And now you're arguing that great sales also means it's sub par? Which is it?

Fords probably going to drop a gen 2 ecoboost in the Ranger, pair it with their new GM/Ford 10 speed auto and that thing is going to haul ass and get great mpg's. No doubt it will be the #1 competitor to the Tacoma. Especially with what Ford does with interiors compared to Toyota. Every year, ford gets better and better. Ford now is not early 2000's Ford (which arguably had less issues than my brand new Tacoma). They need to make it look right though, I swear if they make it look like the international version they royally screwed themselves. I expect them to make it look like a smaller F150, I wouldn't even be surprised if they kept it an F-series truck (F100) to boost their F series sales #'s even more.

All they need is to also offer a manual transmission 4x4 option. If they do that, they have esentially covered the entire tacoma lineup.

The 2.7L EcoBoost, or even 2.3L Ecoboost, paired with the 10-speed transmission is exactly what I'm hoping for. Both engine options are ideal for a mid-size truck, tons of low-end torque and plenty of options to significantly boost stock numbers with relatively cheap bolt-on mods. If Ford does this right, which I'm confident they will, I know what my next truck will be.

Ford will not do what most people want. They do not want too much overlap in their pickup trucks. Putting an engine with the same power in a F-150 in a Ranger will steal away F-150 sales. Ford desperately wants to maintain the sales lead for the F-series so you can count on the Ranger to have substantially less power. Full size trucks are much more profitable and if you want 400+ lb ft of torque you are going to have to spend substantially more money and get into an F-150. It's one reason why you can't get the near-V8 power of the GM 4.3 V6 in the Colorad/Canyon.
