Yep, the F-150 is Ford's baby ....and no one puts baby in the fucking corner. Not even the Ranger.

The ranger will probably compete sub 5-8k to a full size F-150. The problem Ford will have is with certain rebates and deals (depending on trim) you can end up in the same pall park price wise with an F-150 add that to the fact Ford wants you to buy an F-150. These mid size trucks from Ford and GM are there to soak up what money is in the residual "mid-size" truck market and to make sure you don't give Toyota or other competitors a second look.

Full size trucks are not for everyone's life style and/or needs so it's nice the big three are taking notice and at least offering more options and pumping competition into the market. It will force all manufactures to up their game hopefully.

There are no major changes unless you consider a power rear window (the only known change) game changing.

Yep, a mid-size truck with a gazillion torques and horsepowers isn't going to be made by a domestic automaker or any manufacturer for that matter (at least in North America). GM understood that there was a demand for a torquey mid-size so they offered the baby Duramax up with the caveat that it is priced well into Silverado territory.
I would love a Tacoma with a small V8. I know it's within Toyota's capability to make one and get similar or better MPG to what they offer now but I also know that is not in the cards. You have to compromise. Either drive a huge full size tank around with tons of power, or drive a more manageable mid-size and have less power than you'd like. I personally am willing to make that compromise since I don't tow/haul on a daily basis.

this is the only change I've read about and if you want it badly, it
seems it's not too difficult of a mod. I never use that window, never have and
if I had the power option, I'd probably still not use it, I'd be too worried
about leaving it open during a storm.

    Mostly stuff I built.
You could get a 5.3l in the GM twins in the first generation.
Dodge built the Dakota with a v8 for over a decade.

Yeah, but that was a long time ago. CAFE restrictions and emissions regs are totally different now than they were then.

you needed a gas station to go with the damn thing. Had a 97 with the 5.2 V8 that I drove in high school and college and you could watch the needle move. Think I got 9-11 in the city and 13-15 on the highway

It was only just a few years ago that you could get the 5.3L in the GM Twins and the with CAFE it would get better MPGs than a larger heavier truck.

Ford took the EcoBoost out of the Mustang and stuck it in the Focus, so I see no reason whatsoever that they wont do the same with the Ranger, I just don't see the Ranger stealing many sales from the F-150.

So what stops ford from calling it an F-100 and keeping in the F series line?

It is a guarantee that an ecoboost is going in that truck. It might not be an option to have as much hp/torque as a raptor, but i don't think they are going to make it a baby truck with the numbers they are able to pull from the ecoboost line.
