Have any of you had low ATF levels in your 17? I'm on my way to sign papers at my dealer and they are telling me that problem was corrected. Just trying to get things right before I take delivery.

They'll tell you whatever they think you want to hear. Force them to check it (properly!) before taking delivery.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
Haven't had levels checked. I'm gonna drive it like normal and let the 5 years / 60k miles warranty do it's thing. If, in 5 years or approaching 60k miles (the 5 years will come first for me), I have a problem, I'll trade it for another one, since by then I'll have a ton on equity since they hold their value like very little else.

I might get the TSB done, I don't think mine is done. Otherwise, it feels like the sluggish 6speed in my last vehicle. I'm already used it to so I'm not as worked up as others.

You can try to have them check it BEFORE anyone drives it that day, but they probably won't do it same day. Have them write an "I OWE YOU" statement on the sales agreement and come back to have it checked when temperature is within range. Please post your results if you get it done.

Well it took a little bit of work but I got what I wanted. They tried to tell me the whole "it's a sealed transmission" crap and it has a warranty if anything goes wrong. They changed real quick when I explained the procedure to them and I want the piece of mind on a $37k purchase. I gave them the option of bringing it into service or leaving me 2qts of WS fluid and the related seals/washers in the back seat when I pick up the truck. It's going to service tomorrow and will be done before before I pick it up in two days. Best part was the head tech said it's no problem and there's a good chance it is low. I'll report back when I see the actual service ticket.

They told me that "it was a sealed transmission as well" and that "they can't check the fluid levels and they are only allowed to check it when flushing it out to replace the fluid which is every 90,000 miles".

What do you think I should do after they told me the above response? I really want my levels checked out and I don't want a third party shop to check it out because it will void my warranty. I got my TSB done but I'm still experiencing iffy low tranny fluid symptoms.

Open a case with corporate, and tell them the dealership is refusing to manually check it, and that you are having tranny issues, explain what issues you are having. Having corporate back you will give you a better chance of getting it done.

Get another dealer to check it. Dealerships love to see customers that bought from a different dealer come into service, that gives them a chance to get you as their customer from that point forward. Find a different dealership that will treat you right.

Do you think if I go to another Toyota Dealership and perform a service, that they will charge me because I did not purchase the truck through them?

I am hoping that since I am still under the 3 year warranty, that any service I receive by a Toyota Dealership should be performed at no cost to me.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you so much. I'll look into taking it to another dealership and see what they say. If they also give me the same "sealed transmission" excuse then I will call Corporate and file a claim with Toyota and will see how it goes from there. I appreciate the prompt responses from everyone!

If you are having symptoms and the dealer can confirm, no problem getting covered under warranty.
Some members have made a deal with the dealer, check it, if its low its warranty, if its right I pay, none have paid that I know of.
Call a dealer and ask, if they tell you that they will charge you, then refer to post #11.
By the way, your warranty is a Toyota warranty and any Toyota dealer must honor it, not just your selling dealer.

Pickup up my 2017 today and I think that the truck shifts fine and that there is no hesitation between gears or shifting P to R. I'll bring it in if I have an issue as I drive it more though. I hope OPs transmission fluid isn't low.

I am approaching my first scheduled maintenance on my '16. I contacted 6 dealerships explaining that on top of the Toyota care maintenance, I wanted an oil change (that I'll pay for of course), the TSB, and for the ATF level to be checked. I explained to them that the only thing I expect to pay for is the oil change, because the TSB is covered under warranty and the first Toyota Care says it includes a tire rotation, vehicle inspection, and inspection of fluid levels, therefore the transmission fluid should be included. Only one of the dealers got back to me and they said they would have no problem doing everything, and was eager for me to give them a call. I'm not sure if they know how long of a process checking the transmission fluid is, but I now have it in writing that they said they would do it.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, if nothing else, wait until the first scheduled service and demand they check it as part of the fluid inspection.
