Correct - the tow package is added at the factory (incorrectly stated in my previous post). The tow package does add fluid capacity to the system due to the addition of the transmission cooler. I'm wondering if the low transmission fluid issue is limited to only trucks with the tow package, or if it is systemic across the board.

TSB - I'm going to wait to see if I have an issue/problem before I ask for a fix.

ATF level - I wouldn't make a special trip for a check if I weren't experiencing issues, but I would have them check if it were already there for long enough for some other reason. In my case I've not yet picked up my truck (have been out of town and had other commitments), so I asked them to double check the level before I pick it up since it was already sitting there.

They're the ones who fill out the PDI checksheet, or so I was told.

Dealer does and fills out the PDI sheets. No reason for port to

For my peace of mind, when my ordered truck comes in, I will have them perform the manual check on the transmission fluid and perform the TSB on the LCA's and tranny.

I would still recommend getting the transmission level checked. If you're not experiencing any of the issues listed on the TSB, I would hold off on getting it done. I don't see a reason for getting the TSB done if you don't have any problems. You could begin seeing the problems over time so just wait it out. You may already have the TSB done. The only way of knowing is asking the dealer to check the transmission calibration number. I just got the TSB done and they wrote the calibration number on the sticker. The number they wrote down on mine is "8966304B0200". If you have that number in your cal, you should already have the TSB done.

Well, I guess Toyota gave port a reason.

Picked my truck up yesterday and only have about 25 miles on it as of now. On my VIN the first eleven digits are 5TFCZ5ANXHX, is my truck in need of the TSB? Would give me a perfect reason to get the fluid manually checked as well.

No issues yet, but I was wondering if my VIN is the old one that has old software. If so that would be the perfect excuse to have them flash it and manually check the trans fluid.

    Hello Everyone.

Got my 2017 2WD TRD Sport about a month ago. Just called to make the appointment at the dealer and confirmed it would be a physical check of the ATF.
They gave me the appointment with no problem and reassured me that it would be physically checked.
    But how would I know..?
I haven't played with the mechanics of a car in many years.
Will post the results when I have them.

How do you know it was at port? DEaler

I have been thinking the tow package (trans cooler) played a part in this, but have nothing to confirm this.

I'm a bit confused, I guess .... What is this "port" everybody talks about where they add things like the tow pkg. cooler... that makes absolutely NO sense...why would that not be put on at the assembly line. (they know THIS truck was ordered with the tow pkg. that THEY just put it on...??).... (way easier)..
I do understand that some DEALERS do add stuff (crap) to increase profits... But this "Port" stuff adding required components does not may any sense whatsoever...!!
I'm way up in TGWN... (Great White North North), and the only reference we ever see to "port" is usually around a nice fire after a great Moose steak...!! YUMM..!

    Over..:canada:

I like your port definition better.

All trucks built that go to Gulf States Toyota, GST, are sent to Houston (ie the "Port") then sent out to the dealers from there. States covered by this are Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. The "Port" is where they add all kinds of crazy bulls#$% and jack up the price!

OK, thanx my man... so that's just a southern thing where they add "extra" stuff to try and raise the price..?

Necessary stuff like the tranny cooler for the tow pkg. should be already on there, right..?

    THanx for the explanation..

I don't think you want it flashed if it is not exhibiting symptoms and it may be hard to get them to do it. Checking the fluid level should be done at your earliest convenience but again, without symptoms, it's probably a drive more worry less situation.
