K, I was wondering about them. I almost attempted to buy from them as I know someone who knows some one there kind of thing. So far I'm satisfied with service at Prime.

Dealer told me it was a "sensor glitch", reset codes and good to go (although it never gave me any warning/error lights). They can't guarantee it won't happen again. Seems pretty inconclusive. In all my years of driving and owning many makes/models this is the first one I've ever had to get tow. I thought these were supposed to be more reliable but I am greatly disappointed.

I'd be calling Toyota corporate. That's unacceptable.

It's disappointing they weren't more specific. Maybe it will show up on the service report. Glad to hear you're getting it back though.... good to have not just a truck, but your truck.

That sounds like a best case scenario, simple reset rather than any hard parts or tearing out transmissions.

I expect even the shittiest car brands like Dodge and Kia to get their cars up to 50,000km without anything close to a tow situation. Toyota I hold to a higher standard.

So what, he paid a lot for his Tacoma. It's not a definition of his character and for all you know, it's worth it to him. Glad OP got some what of a resolution though.

No, it is a typical automatic with torque converter - with ECU/TCU control.

I had a Honda with a sensor problem that caused it to go into the aptly named "Limp mode". It would not go over 20MPH. The sensor caused the computer to think something was very wrong when it wasn't. It goes into that mode to protect itself from further damage. This sounds like it could be a similar issue.

Should have just driven it at the speed limit until it melted down. Then use their line they always do with us, "it was operating normally per specs". Too bad it was at 8k RPM's to do the speed limit! I'm only going to hold onto mine until the Ranger comes out and then get one year in so they work out the bugs. Ecoboost engine is solid as is their 10 speed transmission. This AT is junk and is missing so many needed gears for the lack of torque it has. If it had a beefed up CVT from the 2017 Civic it would be perfect. Honda has a winner with that tranny.

In CA MSRP of 35-37K is about right on a SR5 DC4x4. You may be able to get close to that OTD.

Good grief people. Toyota’s are reliable—in general! But the failure rate is not 0%. No one’s yet created a completely trouble-free product. Sucks this happened. But stuff like this can and will continue to happen. Welcome to life.

Or you could go in, not act like a dick, and just request they repair it under the terms of the warranty, which is all any of us are entitled to. Some of you guys, Jesus . . . .

    ...stuff
Back on subject here...OP, check the work order when you get it. Sometimes they will unwillingly have the correct answer on it. Anything out of place. If it was just a sensor, look for anything else.

I took my frontier in to a dealer for a transmission control module. $3k repair, and I noticed a “radiator flush” on the work order. I asked about it, that’s when they told me it had a radiator/ transmission cross contamination. (Look up frontier strawberry milkshake). They weren’t going to tell me my transmission was full of coolant which is why I was paying $3k for a control module, and if the transmission failed, I was out even more money. I was so mad I drove the frontier across the street and bought my Tacoma, right in front of them.
