So sad when someone trades a perfectly good 2nd gen for a roll-the-dice problematic 3rd gen.

So far nope. Only a week with it though so not holding my breath yet after others having theirs reappear. Trying to figure out this weird crackling sound by front passenger side dash now.

I think a guy fixed it by sticking some matches between the dash and the door next to the speakers lol.

Remind me not to sit next to you at the ball field when a lightning storm comes in, okay?

Though I have to say - a car with over 1/3 of a million miles and it had plenty of problems? We may not have quite the same expectations... :D

I don't know what's up with service departments passing the buck and telling their customers to call Toyota. I also don't get why they have so many field techs coming out to these dealerships. I've been working in dealerships for 8 years now. Our autogroup has 2 high volume Toyota stores. I don't work directly out of them so it's hard for me to say, but I can tell you I've never heard or seen this with other manufactures (GM, Ford, Honda, Nissan). Ok not saying I've never seen or heard of a field engineer coming out but not for some of these issues that seem pretty obvious to me, or things that shouldn't be fairly difficult to diagnose. The auto industry as a whole has changed a lot over the last 20 years. It's hard to find good technicians, and most new ones don't have any idea how to properly diagnose issues. A lot of the older ones (and younger as well) don't understand the complexity of the electrical systems. Top that off with poor warranty pay times and a flat rate pay scale, and dealers over staffing because they feel each empty lift is profit they are missing out on and needing to be able to keep up with recall demands and busy demands and you have a recipe for disaster. A lot of knowledgeable techs can't make the money the want because they either get wrapped up in big jobs that don't pay the book time they have in the vehicle or they can't turn hours because of over staffing, crappy warranty time, or they don't have enough work space, and constantly waiting on parts. I feel for the guys because I see their paychecks and I don't know how a lot of them make a living. Infact a lot don't, and that's why they bounce around or change careers. I also see a lot of place bring in inexperienced people in attempt to train them and have them start at a lower wage. This causes a lot of problems as well. Most of them don't last and come and go, so you always have people coming and going. That's usually not a good thing. So back on topic perhaps that's why Toyota is sending out so many field techs to these places. I know at our Honda store you rarely ever see them have a motor ripped apart or even a lot of cars in for big repairs. A few of the head guys at our store will joke and say they are just lube techs. Mainly because all the services they end up doing on newer cars is oil changes and tire rotations. However you go to out ford, GM, FCA stores, you'll see a lot bigger jobs, vehicles ripped completely apart, tons of warranty repairs, ect. So perhaps Toyota techs aren't used to dealing with a bunch of issues like they have been faced with, because let's admit, this isn't normal Toyota quality. Atleast not over the past 2-3 decades it seems. I think a lot of issues are overblown to some extent but as each day goes by my mind is starting to think, hmmm perhaps Toyotas quality is slipping a bit. I mean no doubt since the big accelerator recall, I've felt like Toyota has been slipping a bit, but I think this is just adding to the decline. I honestly think the vehicles that were made in Japan had far less issues and better quality parts. A lot of parts are coming from Mexico (have been for a while with other manufactures). I just looked at my window sticker it doesn't even show the origin of the parts anymore. But I remember back in the day a Toyota was like 90% Japan. I bet it's about 30% or less now. Majority of the parts coming from Mexico.

Even if we had to bring in Toyota field techs to diagnose an issue I highly doubt our service advisors or service manager would tell a customer they better get on the phone with Toyota and file a complaint. We would take care of everything and express our sympathy. We would do everything we can to take care of OUR customer. If the customer was still upset or angry we might tell them they can also file a complaint with Toyota to let them know they are unhappy, but we would get the ball rolling and get everything taken care of.

I agree, I still would think it's worth it, as if they did come back with this would agree two things. 1- not discussed when given the keys. 2- only willing to pay what my payment would be as anything more they are liable for.

I have only been here a short while, and have enjoyed my time here, definitely a concerned new purchaser (got delivery window today 23rd - 28th), but also a more educated purchaser, would I change my purchase after being here, YES I would get a Cement PRO DCSB Manual (love the color and would have bought in any trim as long as it was a manual if I had know when I shopped). All the same I am going to get my truck and not let the issues scare me. Toyota has always done right by me, and if they don't I will weigh my options but until then it thinks it's great to be educated and positive. I understand forums and some of the poking fun helps keep things going but dam it gets annoying when these threads take the same path over and over. Newer poster comes on discusses issue, handful of posts of understanding, poke at the "yota does no harm" side, thread gets derailed with these arguments, then goes completely off the rails. I will admit entertaining at times, but annoying when you reading to learn about an issue or follow how it turned out for the OP. And like was mentioned, sounds like good folks have left, banned or clammed up, therefore losing the knowledge of these folks.

With TWs help I hope to take better care of my truck but hope to hell it doesn't make me crazy about every little thing.

I still have it and it runs fine but the a/c quit working and the idle is off sometimes. Check valve is bad on the a/c ($20), easy fix but time consuming. Most of the rest are minor issues but needed constant attention.

I really feel sorry for all the owners of 3rd gen Tacos, having major problems out of the gate. I've beat my truck in the bush from day one, and *knock on wood* never had a problem, excluding driver error kind of shit. I really hope Toyota gets their ducks in a row. Seeing all of the 'issues' with the newer toyota vehicles, I will be avoiding toyota in the near future.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear about this. My '16 TRD Sport 4x4 is about 8 months old and has 18k miles. I had a couple of small issues at the outset, but nothing major, or noteworthy. The trans oil level was correct, etc. Overall, it runs/drives well and I've been generally happy with the truck. My 1st Gen had 260k when I wrecked it and it only ever needed service items (brakes, tires, etc.).

Good luck on whichever path Toyota takes you down.

Honestly you are kind of right, these trucks are built cheaply and put together half assed. My 15 was built better and with pride in my opinion.
