Let me give you a real challenge.

    2017 tacoma double cab.

Any/all options to mount a Fi Audio "Q" series 12" sub. I just measured and the depth has to be at least 7".

Ain't going to happen that I know of. Max depth that I can see at the bottom is 7" so don't think it's going to happen without moving the rear seats forward some and or cutting out the rear support piece that runs along the back

I would really like to fit a ported subwoofer in this truck (ported is my preference over sealed). Sounds like about 7" is the max mounting depth?

I have one like-new JL Audio 12W3 sub that I would really like to use. JL Audio says the mounting depth: is 6-5/8". Mr. Marv or any other audio guru, could I get this to fit in a custom ported enclosure behind the rear double cab seat? What is the overall max box volume that we could we reasonably get back there?

I have this one - love it.

10" JL Audio sub in it sounds perfect.

That's a nice option for a pre-made enclosure. What did it cost? My only concern is that it is likely not exactly designed for my specific sub specs (if I bought a JL 10W3 or similar sub) so I may have to adjust the port length. You said it sounds good out of the box with your JL 10" sub? What sub model do you have?

The sub is a JL Audio 10WX, it sounds great!! I had no idea
the ported sub was going to sound this good with a single speaker.

I cannot remember the cost, I had speakers, amp
& a remote start put in as well.

I just don't see any shallow mount subwoofers doing anywhere close to a FI Q.

    I would settle for 75%

And I think two 10" JL audio or Sundown may get me there.

    Anyone agree??

my last install had 2 10w7's, each on a 500/1, sealed spec box, etc etc. yeah it was an awesome install with Eclipse and stuff.

this time no room for any of those w7's, so I'm shoehorning a 13TW5 on a 500/1 in a spec sealed box and then I'll have something to say. not trying to duplicate the dual w7's, just going for some quality with my tight spaces. this will be good enough since I've been in a factory vw system for 9 years now lol

HOLY crap dude!! JL seriously prides themselves. 13TW5 is $585 on eBay

    That's rediculous.

I love bass as much as the next guy, but just adding a sub won't make your truck sound better. The best bang for the buck is OEM Audio Plus Reference 450Q. Comes with new speakers that are plug and play. Drop in sub-woofer, no need to remove factory panels. And what makes it awesome, is their sound processor, no need to tune it, the sound is programmed exactly for the interior cabin of our Tacomas. You can do the install yourself in a few hours and save some cash doing it yourself. And if you ever sell or return the vehicle, OEM Audio Plus is a Toyota Dealer Approved part. It's got it's own part number in the oem parts system.

Just added 2 10" shallow Rockford fosgate primes. They sound pretty good.

Hey what’s up long time lurker, and my first post I think. Anyways I wanted to comment on some of the older post about the JL/TW13 I had 2 of these in my work truck of all places and had JL 1000/1 hooked up to them and they were incredible subs! I just picked up a 17 4dr long bed, I’ll get to posting and stuff, but I will without a doubt install 2 of those subs when I get to setting the truck up.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
I wasn't happy with the boxes that cover the full width of our trucks. I built a box this weekend... 5/8" particle board (was knicked on a corner at HD and cost me $4 total). It's nowhere near as nice as the furniture quality ones Mr Marv makes, but fits great and sounds good with a 10" kicker 2 ohm in it paired with 350w. Has just under 2 cubic feet of volume. Still able to leave the smaller plastic panel on the drivers side behind the seat too.

The only reason why I love the tw5 is because it sits 2inches deep and it needs minimal air flow. I hate shallow mount subs also I went from an Isuzu trooper with a w7. Ford ranger with an alpine type x. Chevy Silverado with dual w3s and now the dual 13 tw5s surprisingly I’d say these shallow mounts have the deep sound that shakes your life away like my old w7. I had a custom box built and dynamated my whole truck and it sounds great no rattles. If you’re a sound nazi I’d say fiberglass them but to my standards it’s pretty damn great. One thing about running dual tw5s you are guaranteed to lose all your mids and highs. I dropped Jl c5s in the rear and cut a hole for the tweeter by the door handle in the rear and now it sounds like a music festival in there. Hooked it up to the rockord power series 500x4ad an had digital audio converter. After that I had to dump another yellow top optima just to keep it from clipping. Honestly don’t do duals unless you just want to show off lol you have to do so Much to everything else or it’ll just be bass in your face.

if i compare the 10w7 to the 13tw5, there's more than a ton of difference. but i still do like the 13tw5. i have a single on a 500/1, and the punch is insane. it's the main deal here. the depth of bass cannot compare to even a single 10w7, but that's fine for me since i prefer the punch over depth. my dual w7 install was great for depth, but with the Tacoma cab i think a punch-focused SQ install was the right move... and i'm totally happy with it. in other news i'm looking to sell a couple 10w7's and a sealed dual box.

Im going to try out this box, but with newest gen 12' alpine S 600watt rms. Same exact mount depth and box indicates... so i might need to make a couple millimeter gasket. The box it 1.4 cu ft tuned to 37hz, alpine S recommends 1.7cu ft... So im going to put in some poly fill to cheat and tune the box a little lower. I think it should work great. Going to use JL audio JX500/1d amp.
