2017 Formula 1 Season Paddock

Update to pieces of the puzzle moving in Alonso's favor for an American invasion:

Sato out at Andretti Autosport, heading to Rahal-Letterman, freeing up a seat.
Andretti announced they are sticking with Honda next year.

 

Alonso is a very hot property. IndyCar got a huge publicity boost from him running Indy this year.

Speaking of IndyCar, I might actually watch my second IndyCar race this year. They're running at Watkins Glen this weekend.

 

Either get rid of all wet tires or get rid of Charlie Whiting

 

Exciting qualy, well done Stroll and Ocon for topping Ferrari. I think Ferrari are in race trim though and not setup for wet. Should make for an interesting race.

I missed qualy , stupid rain

 

and magically get rid of hydroplaning

 

Grosjean's accident was scary, could have been much worse. I recorded an extra 2 hours past the expected end and still missed the last 6 minutes of the last round. I thought maybe the Ferraris were sandbagging in practice but apparently not. If the race is dry the first few laps are going to be, uhmm, hectic.

 

I heard the announcers say, if the have a "mechanical failure", and not finish, they can make changes and not get grid penalties......

 

Was a fun first 10 laps or so. Have Stroll and Ocon up in the mix made it interesting though I dont think anyone expected them to stay up there. Rest of the race was meh.

Poor Max just cant get a break lol.

 

i dunno? qualify in the top 5 yet have 28 grid place penalties, and have to start last? does it matter?

 

Bottas was da man today. I thought Stroll was going to break his face with that post race smile. I wish Monza would ban those stupid flags on sticks. How many 'strategic retirements' were there?

 

I believe only Alonso and Ericsson, the other two retirements were legit.

 

That race was boring , great drive by Ricciardo though

They will get their shit together, I just hope Alonso hangs in there...

 

If I was a team principal picking between Honda and Renault for 2018 I'd go with Renault. There it is. Let's see how I would have fared.

 

Its not that simple though , McLaren are under long term contract with Honda , Liberty Media don't want Honda out of the sport and in order for McLaren to move to Renault power they have to convince Toro Rosso to take over their Honda supply

 

Yep. Liberty might even bend a rule or two to get Honda competitive. So I'm probably faced with a choice between two competitive engines. And does Alonso stay or go? I'd still go with Renault. They have more skin in the game.

 

I'm guessing he leaves and Honda gets dropped.
