Hi all, new to the forum. I'll be purchasing a 2017 Toyota Tacoma within the next few months and was hoping I can get some opinions regarding whether I should go with the Limited or TRD Pro. BTW, this will be the first truck I have ever owned and driven.

I will be doing off roading maybe once every couple months and each will only be mild terrain. The only reason I'm drawn to the TRD Pro is the aesthetics of the trim (black leather seats, rims, wheels, front grill).

But this truck will mainly serve as a daily driver in the city. If I were to get a limited would it be even practical to try to make it look like a TRD Pro? (Rims, wheels, lifted etc.)

If resale value is important to you just get the Pro...even though you won't need it's abilities, it will retain it's resale value. If you buy the limited and spend the money to make it look like a Pro, it will end up costing as much as a Pro, but won't retain the Pro's resale value.

Thanks for the reply. There isn't a dealership within 100 miles of me that has a TRD Pro that I can test drive. Is the TRD Pro's ride much stiffer/harsher than the Limited?

If you can find a PRO run with it. First time truck owner myself and I'm glad I went with a PRO. They maybe a bit challenging to find depending on the color you want but don't give up. Just my .02

Save your money and buy the pro. You done messed up when you joined TW and started thinking about modding a limited. The pro needs nothing. It'll be cheaper in the long run... :D WELCOME!

Are there any options that you get with the Limited that you don't with the Pro?

Pro rides like a dream on road. I commute about 100 miles a day and love my Pro.

It rides flat in corners at the speed limit, handles freeway on ramps like a boss and is no slouch on uneven terrain granted I also only do mild off-road.

Part of the reason I went Pro vs Limited is how awesome the Fox suspension is in it, black leather vs hickory which is not my thing and the best of the OR model perks. Unless you are leaving it stock the Pro is the better value.

I can't comment specifically because I have a TRD Off-Road...but in theory a high quality suspension like one that comes on the Pro should be more compliant than the limited AND have more off-road ability.

Are you looking to mod, especially stuff like ripping out suspension, running big tires, etc.? If so, you may be better off with a limited, but if you want stock setup with the goodies under factory warranty without worry, go pro. Lots of people like to mod to their own tastes, but others like to leave stuff stock. I bought my pro 4Runner because I'm leaving it stock, only going to add sliders, so it was worth it to me.

I have a limited and I'm modding it into my own interpretation of a TRD pro. This is my daily driver. I don't need a locker (a winch will work just fine) and I hated the hood scoop, iirc sound system is lacking as well. I wanted the full interior package and came with predator steps, bed cover and I wanted the moon roof which the Pro doesn't have.

If your off-roading and you joined the forums, Your gonna end up wanting a lift, bigger tires, new wheels, blah blah blah etc etc. You could save your money and Get any lower trim and make it how you want it.

But hey if you got the money for a TRD Pro do it and mod on. I did but I got a limited. TRD pro = what I wanted. Limited = what I actually needed.

    Good luck.

    Like, so many.
You could get an OR and save some money for mods. But between the Limited and the Pro, I'd go Pro every time. I test drove a Limited and wasn't crazy about it.

Sounds like you really want a Pro. Buy a Pro and be done with it.

The Limited and Pro are the same height.

I went with the Limited for pretty much the same reasons as oscolivar1, then made a few changes.

Beat me to it. I was literally about to hit post reply for the ride height is all the same. For all trims.

All you get on a pro is the fox suspension and locker. All other things you can get on other trims. Obviously the off road has the locker though.

I was planning on buying a Pro when I get one, but these have me thinking to go with the Limited (I won't plan much off roading anyway).
