It is depends on your needs. I was planned to get a limited because I like the simple look of it and I don't really go off road. But the dealer gave me a great deal ( 3k off) so I end up with the pro.
The pro drove very nice on both high way and city. I got 19.2 in the city if I very gentle with the gas pedal. But on high way I got 20.2, and I experienced some high rpm during the incline, other than that it is very smooth. I used it to transported some brick (400lbs) and that thing squatted down like my dog taking a piss. I don't think fox shocks have any good with heavy loads. The handling is good, a little bit lean at corner but it still hold the road very nicely.
I drove with my friend limited for a day and I can tell that it is softer (more comfortable) and less noise on highway than a pro. The interior is the same as a pro but different leather and audio system, JBL is better though. The handling is ok, but it is lean a lot at 40. The city mpg is 19.6 but on the highway we got 22.4. I believed the chin spoiler some how have to do with that. The limited does make us look more like a family/business person compare to the pro. Some of my friends think I'm a toolbag when I'm driving the pro, and I did get some stared when I'm looking at people on the road.
If you had a change, go and test drive both vehicles and choose what best for your needs. But if you do get a great deal on the pro, go with it. You don't have to go off Road with it but you do get some extra features someday you may need. Good luck

Get a pro and throw some 285's on it. The Pro comes with more than the Fox shocks. The headlights, skid, interior, front end, wheels, etc. It rides so well and is amazing off road in its stock form. I couldn't recommend it enough! You can get them for a little under MSRP if you haggle and for the difference over a limited it's so worth the $$$. It's cost a fortune to make a Pro out of an off-road.

I consider an Off Road with the tech package to be far superior to the Limited.

Honestly get the limited. It's the best in terms of ride. If you want better handling for off roading then get the better shocks and etc

I have a Limited and do 99% of my driving in Seattle. It comes with leather and I wanted the sunroof. I'm not sure what the difference between rims and wheels are, but the wheels can be bought aftermarket. If you only care about those additions, you can buy those for a lot less than the $8,000 it will cost you to get to a pro. I'm leaving mine mostly stock, upgrading the tires and calling it good. The Pro doesn't give me anything other than the badges. It's like buying a BMW M3 when all you care about is driving and the 335 has enough power.

What "expectations" didn't it meet? Serious question. It's a Toyota Tacoma. It's the same truck it's always been for 20 years. I don't know what else you would expect the 2016 to be.

Hardly. I paid far less than MSRP and invoice for my OR and have JBL and a moonroof that a Pro dosen't. I can take the $5-7k I saved from a PRO and make it similar if not better off road. Just saying. Dosent negate the pro in stock form or its intended purpose or market, but this statement is far from accurate.

I like Hickory color especially with some camo next to it. I hunt a lot in fall so it is good to me.

I got a loaded TRD OR, less money than either the Limited or the Pro, but with crawl control, JBL, sunroof, and, in my case, the long bed which I believe improves on-road handling and ride by a significant amount. Like the OP, I'm not a fanatic off-roader, but do dirt roads, fire/forest-service roads, that sort of thing, with some frequency. So I like having the off-road bits. I plan, at least for now, to use mine as my DD, so won't lift or put on bigger-than-stock tires in the near future. I'd suggest looking at other options, like both the Sport and OR, see what you like, then decide whether you want to spend the extra $. Admittedly, neither the Sport nor the OR have the leather trimmed seats. For me, the long bed made a big difference, both in the utility of the truck, and also drivability/handling.

I'm between the OR and the Pro.

The sunroof isn't a big deal to me (shade is closed 95% of the time on the one in my Audi) and I plan on replacing the sound system and head unit which I hear the non JBL system is easier to mod.

I want black leather and homelink which the Pro has but if the rumors are true it sounds like leather is coming to the other TRD models.

While I agree that the OR can be made into a pro, there is something to say for having a warranty and higher resell value of the Pro.

I'm with those who think the limited's leather is horrendous looking!
