Generally new taco owner, wondering how well my 2017 limited would hold up on a light trail that I want to take it on. Is it a safe bet?

Welcome! any trim Tacoma is very capable.
Now, what one considers a light trail is the unknown. But I’d say get some local guides, let them know what you have and want to do, and go have fun!

Too many variables for me to give you a straight yes/no answer. Tires are gonna be super important, after that, taking it steady and using good judgement. These trucks are great on trails!

I think tires would be the main concern if there's any muddy/slippery stuff. Other than that I'm sure a Limited will do just fine. I can attest from first hand experience my Limited does everything my 1st gen OR did....and that one had the rear locker.

To be fair, I saw a guy take a Kia that was definitely made for the city, onto some roads in Moab that I would have never come close to with that car. Just pick your line and be careful.

Honestly, if you believe it to be "light/easy" or it came from some kind of "SUV Trails of the Southwest"-type book and they rank it as light or easy, then your limited should eat it up. Just turn the dial to 4-hi and push the skinny pedal, right?

Tires are the answer to 90% of your question. They're the only thing that make contact with whatever terrain you're crossing.

It's as capable as any other 4x4. It's all in whom is driving.
