Looks like I'm going to Atlanta for the race after all. Neighbor just gave me two tickets. Same weekend as Monster Jam at the Georgia Dome.

The name HAAS on Kurt's car really isn't a problem. Gene will always do that as long as business is good. Sponsorship dollars are an absolute tax write off. I own a business, that's how it works. It's just good business and advertising for his products. Same thing started Hendrick Motorsports. Without Rick's dealership dollars, and some help from other sponsors, he may not have succeeded in building his empire. I see no competition reasons for Danica to stay in, and you're right, she's basically racing on borrowed time & resources. Time will tell what happens. I think she'd have more success in the Xfinity or truck series if she wants to stay in NASCAR. It's a little more sink or swim over there.

She started on borrowed time. Great kick in the butt for the sport, moneywise, but beyond that?

I'm not sure I personally see an advantage to having her in the sport at this time, other than to encourage young girls to get into racing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing either. That is very expensive advertising & P.R. though.

So who wants to sponsor me to race a dirt kart? Since it's a tax write off.... (Can't get my own business until I become a registered land surveyor)

Or....you could just declare and open an LLC, I don't know what the laws are your state, but you could do this and then pay yourself out of the LLC, deduct some of your taxes (you still need to pay something into Medicare and Social Security), and then sponsor dollar the rest to your race team (under a separate entity). It may be doable but talk to a good accountant first.

I agree. Here in Georgia, it's relatively cheap to do an LLC as long as you have <4 people. I think an attorney can draw it up for around $500.

Also. UGHHHHHH I want to run dirt karts so bad. It's kind of absurd how much money some of these teams throw into racing. It's not even the actual kart itself. They get those for around $2-4k, then spend who knows what for different class racing engines. There's tires and all the vague science behind tire prep, and then gears, which they go through a lot. Then you have to learn track setups and know how to make adjustments. These guys have crew cab trucks pulling 16-20' box trailers with generators and backup karts. They easily have $10-20k invested in the hobby.

    It's $100.00 through LegalZoom.com I think. Mine's through them.

I thought about getting my boy into that when he was younger and it was easily going to be a $20k investment before I even started looking at trailers. Of course you can do it cheaper but with subpar equipment, which means you'll be less competitive.

See the new repair rules? Going to hurt some feelings I imagine.

" Under the guidelines, teams no longer will be allowed to replace damaged body parts that are the result of accidents or contact. Repairs, such as fixing damaged sheet metal, will be allowed; however, teams will be given five minutes to fix damage once they enter pit road. If the damage requires the car to go behind pit wall or to the garage for repairs, the car will not be allowed to return to the race. Also, if the repairs take longer than the five minutes allowed, the car will not be permitted to return to the race."

This will turn NASCAR into a shit show. This paired with segments is total bullshit.

Seems like an easy way for teams to take out other teams, especially in the final races of the chase.

Yeah, see how they ditched the Camping World clock last season? I have a feeling this stuff won't last beyond this season. If the driver's really dislike it (though I doubt it, as the stars seem lock-step with the new changes), the new formatting could be gone by the All-Star race (best-case scenario). The one aspect I like about the segments format is that teams have 10 minutes to make adjustments to the cars, which could mean a team that completely missed the setup could throw the hammer at the car and see what happens. The problem with this system is, much like the "Chase," it devalues everything leading up to it leaving viewers to ask "why tune in if it doesn't matter?"

So NASCAR just ruined the chance of record breaking. Every team will probably have a DNF every year now, as most teams are in the garage during the race for some kind of repairs during the season.
