Y'all read up on the new penalties? And the reasons behind them? I fucking hate football, so why would I want NASCAR to be more like football? (Read what NASCAR said to get it). Moreover, the penalties are outrageous, especially post race laser inspection. I have a friend who works for one of the world's top inspection companies, and he says they are straight trash.

 

It's a step toward the way short tracks run things. Personally, beyond basic safety inspection & equipment, they should let the teams do whatever they want as far as "innovating" and let the driver gauge for himself what he's willing to strap himself into at the track.

 

But the laser penalty is outrageous... Especially considering you don't know if you will fail...

 

I mean, I no longer look to NASCAR (or any pro sport) as rain gauges for integrity these days. It's a circus, and I'll admit it.

 

Yeah, but it goes beyond what the teams can measure, and they fail thinking they are on... That's BS...

 

Yeah, and somebody thought putting wings on stock cars was hot shit as well. Ugliest areo package ever!

 

Whelp. Daytona, here we come....

Been on the road 2 hours so far

 

Watching practice, the Gibbs cars are fast together.

 

Left Athens at 5pm. Arrived at 1:30am. $40 tent camping in turns 3 & 4. Folks partied until 4am. 4 hours of practice today which was annoying. Not the practice itself, rather the commentary blaring over the PA. Light sprinkle of rain about 10 minutes ago. Steady breeze. Clouds are parting to the west. Let's hope it stays this way. I'm hoping to pack up after tonight's races and head to my friend's house 2 hours north. Arca race about to start and then the Clash at 8:30. Not sticking around for 3pm quals tomorrow. I have homework due Tuesday morning.

Oh, and Denny Hamlin has the tiniest little princess feet in NASCAR.

Was supposed to be 8:00, there's a small storm moving to the North East across Daytona.

 

It doesn't. No way they get this thing in tonight. Just started raining again. Pit crews didn't even cover pit boxes with tarps during the first downpour. They need to call it and turn off the PA so I can get some sleep.

Track is still dark as charcoal even after 40 minutes of drying.

 

And it's not like there was a crowd. Maybe a couple thousand at most. Not even 10,000.

 

Showered through the night. They just started drying the track. Sounds like an army of drones.

 

Are the stands as empty as look on TV?

 

I just turned it on for the qualifying.
There is no one there....
