His car still ran, and they DQed him... Over damage from a wreck that wasn't his fault. That damage rule is bullshit.

Ahhhhhhhh ok. All they are doing is bunching up the fast cars for more wrecks with the segments. And now making it easy to punt competition out if the race with an accidental bump.

That's not racing. That's demolition derby, and I don't tune in to watch that...

I will watch the start and see how they announce it then shut it off.

Actually I want to see how many seats are filled and how many were taken down to make it look like a lot of people are there. If you look at some tracks, they paint the seats to break up the vastness of being empty.

Yes, but most people were sitting high up in level 1 to get in the shade. Probably looked totally empty. Rolex tower was moderately full and the suites were slammed.

Hard to make Daytona look full with these new gargantuan grandstands. I've never been so high at a track in my life. We were at the very top at the start finish line. It was awesome. Someone gave us Rolex Club passes. I dined on prime rib and free booze on a terrace on top of the track. We could see the beach from our perch.

Daytona tore down the backstretch stands and tower, but they added a shit-ton in the front stretch. I think seating capacity is over 300,000 now, excluding pit road grandstands and infield capacity. It is absurd how much the place has grown since I was last there in '94.

Yeah. I explained that to my kid this morning while he was chasing seagulls around behind the Cup garage. "Huh," he said, "TV magic, I guess."

They definitely opened the worm cans this season. :der: This 2 segment qualifying with the top 12 is a joke! With the wind, it didn't even really change anything, and after lap 2 of the race, it won't have mattered anyway.

    About that attendance:
"the Clash rolled out before the smallest crowd for a big-league Daytona race in memory, an estimated 15,000. You can blame the rain-mandated rescheduling. You can blame Dale Earnhardt Jr., who spent the day in the TV booth instead of his racecar. There's some rationale to both of those, but still, it wasn't a busy day at the ticket windows, and that's always troubling for Speedway officials."

It didn't seem like he was mad, sounds like he wanted to work with the guy to get out front. That's the kind of driver I want to watch, one that is always wanting the lead.
