Is there a way to tell if it's pre-wired before your start on it ? Could the VIN shed any light ?

Keyless entry is a fob you push a button on to lock/unlock doors. Does nothing with the ignition.

Proximity key is very different, includes a push to start ignition, and costs a pile to repair/replace when that key is lost or fails.

Personally I hope I never have to own a vehicle with a proximity key. For my long term ownerships simpler is better.

Classic case of what? All three of us hands down agree CC sucks. Flat out. Two ditched their trucks for something else because CC was on the short list of the things this truck sucks at. What I said I stand by because its a fact. Just because some dont agree doesn’t mean there is some unicorn exaggerating a bunch of crap. And to be honest, I could really give a crap what people like or dont with their trucks anyway.

Silly question... did also get the cable that goes between it and outlet in the steering wheel?

I even use my CC in town. I love it. Maybe you need to take it to the dealer to get it checked.

Mine is a 2016, but I have not heard of anyone having issues with the 2017 or 2018 SR.

Another silly question... you know about the button on the end to turn it on before setting?... I ask because it didn't come with any directions and I didn't have it on my 2000 SR5.

One more silly question... did you disconnect the battery before installing?... if not you might do that for 10-15 minutes and maybe it will see it when reconnected?... just grabbing at straws.

It could be a faulty unit or the cable for that matter... maybe a bad connection?

I had a "98" reg cab 4x4 5 spd. It was fine. I traded for a 2013 Reg. cab 4x4 auto., as the 6 cyl isn't available in Reg. cab, Every hill, or grade, it shifts at least once & most times twice. Cruise would be useless in my area. In my wife's Rav-4 6 cyl. auto. all whl. drive, it rarely shifts on any hill. I guess it's my fault, some here told me before I traded, I just didn't realize how bad it would be with an automatic trans. I miss my intermittent wipers, I didn't know anyone had a vehicle without that anymore.

I might add when using cruise it will downshift hard reaching 4-4k rpm going up the slightest hill. Once I peak over the hill onto flat ground it will not shift up again for what seems is to long a time. This causes my mpg to crash hard. Usually get around 15mpg using cruise because of this. Add wind and it's worse. If I use my own foot I can feather the throttle allowing me to use each gear properly. My mpg will increase significantly and have gotten over 20mpg staying no more than 70mph. It's a pretty bad driving experience using cruise unless I'm on a flat road, no wind and a speed limit of no more than 55mph.

I use my CC constantly. 70-75mph speed limits here in south Texas. 25 mile drive one way. This is my DD. Average 20.5-21.5mpg every tank. Zero of the AT issues you describe.

I simply could not do without cruise control. 90% of my driving is highway, but I use it in town as well. I have a long 30mph drive out of my neighborhood with no lights or stop signs, and set it at 34 so I don't have to pay constant attention to my speed. I agree that it's not the best or most efficient, as there's not much wiggle room in the circuitry, so if you set it at a particular speed, it'll work to keep the truck at that speed, which means downshifting on hills, sometimes dropping 2 gears to maintain speed. It's a minor annoyance that I no longer really notice with the stereo on. Toyota probably should have designed it with a 2 or 3 MPH buffer on the low side to assimilate driving without it. Without cruise control on, I don't experience the downshifting.
