Thanks for better explaining the nature of these trips @EDDO
. I'd say I have a good deal of the necessary gear but not all of it. Ah, it's coming together now - were you at Frank Raines a few months back? Anyway, I've dragged serious ass on upgrading suspension, and will continue to drag serious ass. Thanks for the warning - my 1987 4x4 had MUCH better suspension than this pretty thing.

No worries; met you at Frank Raines. They charge a fee for those runs and you want to get the most out of them. Half those runs I come home needing an alignment and upgrading something or other.

If you would, my truck would be trashed. Those looked like Raptors, so I'll fill in the blanks.

Where do you like to go up 108? I worked at Kennedy Meadows for a long time and know there are a few spots out there that would be fun. I never had 4wd when i was working there though.

Right on. We like to go out behind cedar ridge or long barn sometime. Mostly end up at the Niagra Rim trail.

I'm hoping to get over to the east side to explore the high desert this spring. I have a book of old mines locations out there and I want to hit them up.

If I buy a gun, that doesn't mean that I can now call myself a warrior. Likewise, if I purchase $25k minimum in mods for my truck, I equally cannot call myself a vet etc.

Just put some good tires on it, get a buddy and go. See how the truck works for what you want to do with it. If there is something about the way it performed that you didn't like, mod it. And don't keep track of what you spend on it. There is nothing to be gained from that.

Haha! 2013 money pit! Yeah I learned the hard way in my past life. Spent over 30k modifying my 1972 Fully convertible, lifted GMC Jimmy. Then I learned this line "Buy what you don't need, and later you'll sell what you do."

Thanks Eric, I'm a sports trainer, so for me this means pick up a second job. But I love your approach man, great advice.

    A few things
To be a vet you need to drive around 24/7 with a tent on your roof. Then people will just know

Good question. Lots of dirt roads mostly, but we tend to look for harder terrain. Deep ruts, hill climbs, snow/mud.

Niagra Rim is a 4x4 trail. Parts of it are tricky parts are not. Google fu: http://4x4trailmaps.com/4x4Trails.php?Trail_ID=78

As far as the east side I'm assuming its also as hard as you want it to be.

    And your trailer.

It's all about prep. When epic finds you, you better be ready to go.

    Noobs.

If you drive a civic, and are thinking about someday owning a tacoma, you can roll with us. And I'm glad we've been extended a hand from that other club. Prolly felt sorry for us. Maybe the alpha romeo club will let us join them as well.
